GDIT is hiring a Database Specialist in support of the USSOUTHCOM SCITES Program.
Primary Responsibilities:
Responsible for designing, planning, implementing, and administering databases, including security, access, and documentation.
Also responsible for the installation, configuration, administration and management of Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft SQL Reporting Services.
Ability to implement, maintain and troubleshoot SQL Server HA and database monitoring.
Identify and troubleshoot database issues and the ability to analyze, design, build, test and implement solutions.
Exposure to Resource Governor, Tuning Advisor, SQL Profiler and Windows Reliability and Performance Monitor.
Monitor and optimize the performance of the production SQL databases. Perform scheduled and nonscheduled database backups and recovery with Microsoft SQL Server SSMS, or SQL CMD.
Collaborate within teams of Network and System Administrators to restore databases, or resolve any database system issues.
Manage, monitor, and resolve issues with Scheduled Jobs, Database Mail, and other back end system data flows.
Modify and Execute PowerShell Scripts to automate the maintenance processes of MS SQL Server 2016.
Ensure compliance with DISA Security Technical Implementation Guidance security policies and procedures and audit SQL Server 2016 Server Instances.
Document SQL Server 2016 Security Posture. Document all support-related activities and report issues using the ticket management system.
Create and maintain technical documentation including standard operating procedures, user guides, knowledge base articles, and system configurations.
Required Qualifications:
8+ years of relevant experience
Education Requirements:
Higher Education Degree in Information Technology, or related field; or commensurate level of experience based on position level (Associate, Journeyman, Senior, etc....) Additional experience in lieu of formal education will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Strong understanding of database schema object management, data modeling and architecture.
Expert understanding of Structured Query Language (SQL) and Transact-SQL (T-SQL).
Experience with SQL clustered environments.
Experience with virtual environments (VMware/Hyper-V).
Solid understanding of Windows AD, DNS and Group Policy.

Desired Certifications/Experience:
Eight years of experience SQL Server 2016 in the High Availability Groups (HA)
Eight years of experience with SQL Server 2016 Failover Cluster Instances (FCI)
Experience building SQL Server 2016 HA and FCI Instances remotely
Experience maintaining SQL Server 2016 databases that support SharePoint
Experience maintaining and installing database that support third party applications like SolarWinds, System Center (SC) Configuration Manager, and MS SC Operations Manager
Experience with network storage solutions
