Job Description

JOB DUTIES –

1) Performs venipunctures and capillary collections

2) Collects appropriate specimen for each test,

3) Performs point of care testing,

4) Excellent telephone and communication skills,

5) Promotes good public relations for department and Baptist Health Paducah,

6) Has access to medication storage areas pertinent to required job tasks,

7) Consistently follows hospital and departmental policies and procedures,

8) Other duties, both major and minor, which are not mentioned above and specific functions may change from time to time.

QUALIFICATIONS AND ACCOUNTABILITY

– Completion of 12th grade (high school) or phlebotomy training program; certification in NCA, ACA, ASPT, or ASCP is recommended.  Must have good written and verbal skills; must frequently work under pressure.  Must be able to follow instructions explicitly as not to compromise patient care.  Exhibits calm behavior to patients and visitors.  Ability to get along well with others.  Must adhere to medical ethics and have concern for the welfare of the patient, laboratory and institution. Supervised by Laboratory Director.   Performance appraisals are conducted at the end of a three-month probationary period and 6 months by the Director with input from the Phlebotomy/Processing supervisor; evaluations, thereafter, are given on a yearly basis.  Trained yearly on all populations served and completes competencies for patients identified within the department scope of service.
