Job Summary

Nuclear Waste Partnership, an LLC of Amentum is currently seeking a Shaft Tender - Trainee to join our Operations team located in Carlsbad, NM.

The successful candidate will be expected to train and qualify to control hoist operations at shaft collar or underground station. Load and unload mined salt, passengers, and materials to/from conveyance in accordance with WIPP Site procedures. Train and qualify on the operations of various equipment, including salt haulage trucks, forklifts, Kubota tractor and monorail hoist. Individual may be required to perform complex rigging operations. Follow all safety procedures, regulations, and policies. Conduct frequent inspections of work area to assure that safe working conditions are maintained. Individual will also be required to successfully complete site training, including site access, underground access, conduct of operations, and radiological courses of instruction. Work assignments will primarily be in the shaft areas, underground and/or salt pile. Promptly report any hazards or unsafe conditions to management. Perform daily inspections of assigned equipment and maintain daily safety activity logs. Coordinate routine activities for underground access. Ensure all individuals seeking entry to underground are properly equipped. Maintain availability, inventory, storage and condition of materials hauling slings, fittings and related tools, assuring compliance with safety requirements. Perform similar and related duties as assigned. Required to complete specified qualifications within a reasonable amount of time from start date of employment. Must be able to pass a pulmonary function test to qualified aware and work in a respirator.

This is a USW Bargaining Unit position.

Minimum Requirements

High School Diploma or GED is mandatory.
Due to the nature of the work, all candidates must be US Citizens.

Preferred Qualifications

Two (2) years of experience working in or around mine shafts is preferred.
Previous WIPP Project experience is a plus.
