In this role, you will be joining the Display & Optics team that is responsible for the design, development, and productization of the display systems in AR, VR, and Portal family of products.
This is a dual role where one is the functional manager of an engineering team responsible for the design, build, and integration of display prototypes across a matrix organization, and another is responsible for maturing the display sub-system module through New Technology Introduction (NTI). You will manage managers and individual contributors.
Engineering Lead Manager, Display & Optics Responsibilities
* Lead a growing organization composed of managers and individual contributors spanning a diverse set of technical domains in mechanical, electrical, firmware, and optomechanical engineering.
* As the functional manager:
* Set the organization's direction and structure
* establish processes and initiatives to best match the needs of various engineering needs across the product teams.
* Drive the teams priorities to support product teams needs and schedules for design and builds.
* Support the engineering teams in meeting commitments through OKR alignment, and clear communication across the organization.
* Manage processes and workflow to help the teams do their best work.
* Work closely with stakeholders and cross-functional partners to align on direction, priorities, roles and responsibilities in an evolving and growing scope.
* As the NTI Manager:
* Drive the engineering development and maturation of the module and sub-assembly engineering efforts in collaboration with sister teams.
* Play an active role in establishing new capabilities with MP partners.
* Anticipate future needs with MP partners or internal teams based on similar experiences of developing highly complex modules/sub-systems.
* Work closely with Advanced Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and remote teams in the region for successful technology transfer.
* An exceptional problem solver for organizational matters and in leading the team through complex technical matters.
* Develop comprehensive understanding of the different product areas and apply experience, leadership, knowledge, and influence to drive for effective decision making and fast resolution.
* Attract, develop, mentor, and retain a strong team to execute on the vision.
* Manage budget, headcount growth, interviewing, and hiring.
* 25% travel post pandemic.
Minimum Qualifications
* Bachelors degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar field.
* Minimum of 7 years of people management experience of highly technical individuals.
* Minimum of 10 years of experience working in the display field.
* Demonstrated experience leading a large team at scale and managing engineering with an eye to driving efficiency and engineering.
* Experience partnering with cross-functional team members, senior management, and global partners exercising sound judgment.
* Leadership skills with self-awareness, situational/organizational awareness.
* Experience influencing with great latitude on outcomes. Presents and defends complicated or delicate issues.
* Experience of being a role model for direct reports.
* Communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
* Adept at working in a fast-paced environment and in early stages of product development, and with a high level of ambiguity.
