Software Engineering Manager Responsibilities

* Lead the overall Facebook Reality Labs Research SWE community on site.

* Provide management, coaching and mentorship to SWE and RE roles in order to maximize teams health and effectiveness, and to optimize individuals career growth.

* Provide leadership for innovative, reliable, scalable and maintainable software solutions.

* Analyze, evaluate, design, develop, integrate, debug and test realtime AR and VR software for advanced prototypes and user experiences.

* Own lab wide Software Engineering Infrastructure to support various research and engineering teams needs through long term SWE craft excellence.

* Provide team guidance, regular feedback, education, coaching and mentoring.

* Define and lead the process for architectural, design and code reviews that improve software engineering quality and efficiency.

* Create career development plans, manage performance and performance reviews.

* Identify, recruit, interview and hire software engineers to help teams scale effectively.

* Educate researchers and other team members on software engineering best practices, tips and techniques.

* Collaborate in a team environment across multiple scientific and engineering disciplines, making the architectural tradeoffs required to rapidly deliver software solutions.

Minimum Qualifications

* BS degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Math, Physics or related field.

* 8+ years experience managing software engineers.

* 10+ years experience creating software for games, robotics, realtime systems or other high performance environments.

* 10+ years experience designing software systems and services.

* Proven track record of professional software development, including shipping one or more products on large code bases using standard tool sets such as source control and continuous integration systems.

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience in realtime interactions at scale.

* Experience with game engines such as Unreal or Unity.

* Experience going through a full product lifecycle, integrating customer feedback into product requirements, driving prioritization and pre/post-launch execution.

* Experience with Low-level graphics frameworks such as Vulkan, DirectX or OpenGL.

* Bachelors degree in computer science, hardware engineering, biomedical engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

* Experience managing programs in research or early product development, consumer electronics, medical device development, or academic research.

* 5+ years experience in managing or technical leadership at a large technology company.

* Entrepreneurial background or start-up experience.
