Introduction:
Northern Trust Shared Services Technology team is seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to join the Mutual Funds Automation development team. We are seeking a senior lead software engineer who will be responsible all development life-cycle events of applications and services based on core technologies along with evaluating and delivering new techniques, practices, and technologies that meet client and corporate strategic goals.
MAIN DUTIES:
Northern Trust Enterprise Middleware Service team is looking for a skilled and experienced MQ Administrator with a strong background in Solace administration to join our talented team. RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manage and administer IBM MQ and Solace messaging environments, ensuring their stability, reliability, and optimal performance.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather messaging requirements, design solutions, and implement enhancements to messaging systems.
• Monitor and troubleshoot messaging platforms, diagnosing and resolving issues in a timely manner to minimize downtime and disruptions.
• Proactively identify opportunities to enhance system efficiency, scalability, and security, and implement recommended improvements.
• Perform regular maintenance tasks, including patching, upgrades, and system health checks for both IBM MQ and Solace.
• Configure and manage MQ and Solace resources such as queues, topics, channels, and subscriptions, based on application needs.
• Develop and maintain operational documentation, procedures, and best practices for messaging system administration.
• Collaborate with development teams to integrate messaging solutions into applications, ensuring seamless communication and data exchange.
• Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours support and incident resolution as needed.
• Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies related to messaging systems and make recommendations for their adoption.
• Provide 3rd level support and act as a technical leader of offshore support team
• Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
• Proven experience as an MQ Administrator with a minimum of 6 years of hands-on experience in administering IBM MQ and Solace messaging environments.
• Strong proficiency in designing, configuring, and troubleshooting messaging solutions using IBM MQ and Solace.
• Solid understanding of message queueing concepts, publish-subscribe models, and related protocols (e.g., MQTT, AMQP).
• Experience with scripting and automation using tools such as Shell, Python, or Ansible to streamline administrative tasks.
• Familiarity with monitoring and alerting tools for performance tuning and system health assessment.
• Ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues independently and collaborate effectively within a team environment.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
• Solace Certified Administrator (SCA) or equivalent certification is a plus.
• Knowledge of cloud-based messaging services and containerization (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker) is an advantage.
• Knowledge of Kafka messaging system is a plus
• Experience with Scrum team is a plus
