Job Description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prepare all requisitions/request orders for the assigned area.

Diagnostic - to include Ultrasound and Nuclear Medicine, CT Scan, and Mammography.

Type or enter all required data on all requisitions/ request order screens as specified per departmental procedures with 95% or greater accuracy.

If information is not present on admitting forms, inquire of the patient, physician or physician's office, the information needed as specified per department manager.

Schedule patients for exams:

Take information from requesting doctors, doctors' secretaries, or other medical facilities per departmental procedures.

Obtains authorizations on an as needed basis.

Maintain knowledge of all scheduling times and limitations of staffing complements as determined by the departmental manager or changed as needed by direct notification.

Explain the preparation for required exams to patients, physicians' secretaries, ward personnel, or other medical facilities for all scheduled exams per departmental procedure.

Print all schedules for departmental or hospital use on a daily basis, as required by the end of the day with 100% accuracy.

Perform receptionist duties:

Receive all incoming phone calls within three rings.

Screen all incoming phone calls for physicians and Director.

Greet all patients in person, in a friendly, polite, professional manner, or seek assistance from the Director on situations requiring further explanation or administrative handling.

Answer all patient questions relevant to exams and to direct or refer questions beyond their medical expertise to the appropriate personnel in the department or hospital.

Contact radiologist and technologists on call to notify them of requested emergency procedures.

Contacts Departmental Administrators/ Supervisors on call per departmental procedures.

Read reports over the phone to requesting physicians with 100% accuracy:

Look up additional date/exams/schedule to coordinate the complete reporting function as required or instructed by the requesting physician.

Prepare/handle all required paperwork and data entry as required at the completion of exam:

Collate, collect, batch or send out all billing, statistical and other related data per departmental procedures or directives as instructed with 95% or greater accuracy.

Burn CDs for patients on an as needed basis. Verify proper identification of patients before releasing information.

Separate, collate, mail or fax out all reports or data as required to referring physicians, clinics, wards or others as directed on a per notification/request basis.

Mail out CDs on a daily basis to other medical entities as needed/requested.

Patient Transfers/Transport

Arrange for transport of patients to and from the department as well as outside ambulance.

Ensure all paperwork goes back with patient once tests are completed.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

Previous experience with computerized hospital order entry and scheduling programs

Strong customer service and communication skills

Ability to work independently.

Familiarity with medical terminology.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE/TECHNICAL/OTHER:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Experience (Type & Length): Previous hospital or patient care setting experience preferred.

Software/Hardware: Previous experience with computerized hospital order entry and scheduling programs.
