Responsibilities

The Nursing Unit Coordinator works under the direct supervision of the Nurse Director/Charge Nurse in performing clerical, receptionist, communication and patient care duties (when appropriate) as directed. The Nursing Unit Coordinator maintains the patient record “paper” chart as a medical-legal document, on the inpatient unit, according to Medical Center policy and procedures.  Assists in organizing and communicating inter and intra-departmentally to achieve optimum patient care.  Maintains an orderly, equipped and supplied Nursing Unit.  Provides “support” for the direct nursing care of the patients.

Qualifications

Minimum Education: 

High School Diploma or equivalent.  Medical Terminology. 

Minimum Experience:  

At least one (1) year of additional studies or experience in business, medical or secretarial fields preferred. Computer proficiency preferred.

Required Certification/Registration: 

Current and ongoing BLS certification.                         

Physical Demands:   

Work is primarily sedentary with walking and standing.

Working Conditions: 

Works primarily at the nursing station within easy reach of telephones, computer, intercommunication system and files.  The work area is essentially open with various activities taking place around the worker, creating distraction.  May be exposed to unpleasant patient elements.
