Job Description

The Accounting Associate I, reporting to the Accounting Manager, will perform various accounting and bookkeeping tasks including, but not limited to:

Process A/P invoices and disbursements; including maintaining AP email, obtaining approvals and responding to vendors;

Draft AP invoices (in SAP) with proper coding and ensure all invoices have supporting documentation;
Apply outgoing payments in SAP;
Input vendor banking templates;
Collect forms W-9 and W-8, as appropriate;
Prepare and enter necessary journal entries and accruals into accounting system;
Reconcile and analyze various balance sheet accounts in the general ledger; including the AR receivables account (3rd party billing);
Maintain integrity of database accounting systems by regularly updating files, reports and spreadsheets;
Assist with 1099 processing;
Provide support for annual financial statement audit;
Assist with processing and serve as a back-up by processing A/R invoices;
Other special projects, as required.
Assist and serve as back-up for review of Concur and AMEX expense reports;
Assist with Concur Training, as needed;
Perform other accounting administrative tasks, as assigned; and, 
Other special projects, as required.

Although a private, not-for-profit entity, the NYGC operates in a notable public field and reporting requirements over time will emulate public company standards. Implementing proper policy and demonstrating financial integrity and compliance within the NYGC operations is essential.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position that may require overtime based on quarterly and annual filing deadlines, as well as other project deadlines. We anticipate that this position will be remote through September 2021.

Required Experience

College degree required, with a concentration in Finance/Accounting, preferred;

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
Minimum one to three years of accounting experience;
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written;
Ability to work independently and in a team environment;
Excellent time management, planning and organizational skills;
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment; and,
Strong Excel skills, experience with SAP and Concur, preferred.

The New York Genome Center (NYGC) is an independent, nonprofit academic research institution focused on furthering genomic research that leads to scientific advances and new insights and therapies for patients with neurodegenerative disease, neuropsychiatric disease, and cancer.
