Ally is seeking a Senior Director of Data Engineering to be a key leader in our Enterprise Data & Analytics organization in Detroit, MI, reporting to the CIO of Enterprise Data & Analytics. The ideal candidate will possess a unique blend of business, leadership, and technical savvy to partner with the CIO to lead data engineering for Ally's largest lines of business. The candidate will partner with business and analytic senior executives to develop a data and analytic strategy and roadmap that meet business line and corporate objectives, help refine and evolve the company's data architecture to keep pace with leading technology developments, form and lead high performing, agile data engineering teams with modern skills and highly advanced DevOps practices, and implement and use leading cloud data technologies and platforms to deliver data and analytic solutions that drive our business and fuel the next generation of digital customer capabilities.

The candidate will have a proven track record of leveraging leading technology to deliver world class data and analytic solutions, and will exhibit passion and energy for innovation and creating customer and business value. The candidate will establish and communicate a clear vision, build organizational capability and create a sustainably well-managed organization, advance the organization's technology and DevOps capabilities, develop the next generation of independent leaders, and oversee the execution of data engineering activities throughout the organization. The candidate must possess strong data engineering skills and experience, and must also be a seasoned and inspiring manager of people, cultivating an engaged and motivated workforce. The Senior Director will work with IT peers and business partners to guide and drive company-wide strategic technology investments. This includes applying advanced technology expertise and business acumen to maximize the return on investment dollars, while enhancing the overall technology delivery process. The candidate should be a highly experienced and seasoned technology leader, capable of building and leading a high performing team of data technologists, and also prepared to serve in time as a successor/overall leader of the firm's Data & analytics organization.

Ally's Enterprise Data & Analytics organization aims to centralize data and democratize analytics. The Senior Director will serve as a champion across lines of business for harnessing the potential of data & analytics and promoting a data-driven culture within Ally.

Job Responsibilities

* Lead and oversee a team of data technologists covering the full range of enterprise data & analytic functions including data architecture, data design and development, Agile delivery, automated testing and DevOps, data platform management, machine learning & AI, API development, business intelligence and data science workbench management, business intelligence, and more.
* Drive and prioritize capability creation by developing a deep understanding of Ally's customers and business models.
* Build and evangelize self-service analytic capabilities for Ally's analyst community and distinct Analyst personas.
* Provide data thought leadership across business stakeholders to achieve an enterprise data and analytics capability, and to bring the latest in AI/ML technology and practices to our firm.
* Build and manage relationships with business and IT, collaborate across functions to align expectations, build productive relationships, and develop and operationalize critical data capabilities.
* Work with the CIO and IT peers to identify, assess and drive a data & analytics technology strategic roadmap.
* Actively participate in technology strategic planning, provide exemplary leadership to cross-functional teams, serving as the ultimate point of contact for data technology delivery and support.
* Promote and advance the use of Agile, DevOps, and other modern software development methods through the organization. Oversee and sustain a well-managed organization and delivery portfolio, while being good to our people and managing financials, risk, stability & resiliency, and customer engagement.
* Improve agility, optimize processes and improve time to market for IT delivery model by optimizing processes, improving communication and removing duplication efforts across IT organization.
* Provide leadership and management through coaching, empowerment and encouraging teamwork among all staff, including the administration of personnel actions and reviews.
* Develop associates to their fullest potential and provide challenging opportunities that enhance associate career growth.
* Recruit and develop talent to insure top team capabilities, employee career growth, and responsible succession planning.

Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Business and/or an advanced degree (MBA, MCS)
* 10+ years of professional experience in IT and enterprise applications delivery, including 10+ plus years of information systems experience.
* Must have proven business and technology skills, with success providing customer-oriented technology solutions environment.
* Demonstrated success as a change agent leading significant transformational initiatives in organizations.
* Must be a fast-paced and solution-focused "driver" for results in a high performance culture, but also achieve results in a positive collaborative manner.
* Must be an effective communicator and considered to be a developer of people who is comfortable working with a broad cross section of people in direct and matrixed relationships.
