Principal Software Engineer

Job Overview

This position is responsible for architecting, designing, creating, testing, and ensuring the quality of moderately complex software for a major product or product line. The Principal Software Engineer will perform complex code modification, testing, and debugging tasks as well as provide high level research and analysis related to software design and development.

API Monitoring (Runscope part of BlazeCT) is a building tools for developers monitoring API-driven mobile and web applications. We have a clear vision for the future of service-powered software and the tools that will be required to build the next generation of applications.

We deploy on AWS, build & consume APIs, and are built to scale. Were looking for someone who knows the ins and outs of highly available services and zero-downtime systems.

The tools you build will directly impact other developers, and having a strong product vision is important for this role. Youll need to be able to understand complex interactions and be a voice for the customer as you engineer the next generation in developer tools.

We build the next gen of API analytics which help developers pinpoint API call that have anomalies and be able to predict which APIs/version cause most issues and in which environment.

Skills & Competencies

* Strong experience in API/API Gateway or API Management

* Knowledge of Http or REST or SOAP Web Services.

* Software development experience in Java or Python or Go

* Software product/micro-services architecture, design, development and Delivery

* Databases: Postgres DB, Redis and mongoDB (Any one DB knowledge)

* Experience of Continuous Integration and Continuous delivery or Docker.

* JMS/Kafka/messaging

* Technical expert with in-depth programming and product knowledge and strong technical skills combined with project management and leadership ability.

Key Responsibilities.

* Work collaboratively within an Agile Team to write high quality, testable code that meets the Definition of Done:

* Support the early and continuous validation of features and stories with Customers, Analysts and CA's customer facing teams to maximize the market value of the software delivered at each increment.

* Responsible for assigned integration, testing, and deployment tasks.

Program Execution Planning

* Actively foster continuous team improvement in self and team:

* Contribute to team retrospectives; help to identify and resolve team impediments.

Release/PI Planning

* Prepare for Release Planning, including:

* Support Product Management in program backlog refinement, and estimating features and epics.

* Collaborate with the System Architects to:

* Understand and communicate non-functional requirements relevant to the team/feature.

* Identify and define Architectural epics and features in the Program Backlog, including refactors.

* Capture and communicate how the system does what it does using whatever form of documentation is appropriate to serve the Release Planning process.

* Actively participate in Release Planning:

* Establish own capacity/velocity for each increment.

* Support story refinement, help identify risks and dependencies.

* Support the Agile Team in establishing achievable PI objectives.

* Help to identify dependencies and foster cross team co-ordination.

* Commit to the mutually agreed plan.

Iteration Planning

* Prepare for Iteration Planning, including:

* Actively participate in backlog refinement sessions in collaboration with other Agile team members.

* Identify and capture backlog items local to the team, such as defects and refactors.

* Participate in Iteration Planning, including:

* Actively participate in team planning and contributing to team goals.

* Work with the Product Owner to establish the acceptance criteria for a story.

* Volunteer for and commit to delivering stories and tasks within the iteration.

* Contribute to a statement of the iteration goals, working in partnership with the Product Owner to define the business objectives for the iteration.

Preferred Education

Bachelor's degree or global equivalent in a related field.

Work Experience

Typically, 8 or more years of software development experience.
