A day in the life
The ideal candidate is passionate about Alexa and making people's life better. You have a demonstrable track record of success in delivering new features and products. You take pragmatic and iterative approach to building software: you have an ability to simplify and get things done, analyze customer feedback and focus on the most impactful and successful ideas customers need, fail fast, work effectively with external and internal teams. You have experience with large, architecturally complex eco-systems in both consumer and enterprise spaces.
You will be working on fleet management capabilities, identity and shared access of the devices owned by a business(e.g. hotel) and used by guests. You will use extensively AWS technologies, learning a lot about IoT. Often you will not have an industry precedence. Great imagination and passion to Invent & Simplify, Think Big, Ownership are very much needed in this role.
You are highly quantitative, have great judgment and passion for building the right product to the customer. You are hands on leader who loves working closely with engineers to architect and develop robust, scalable technical designs. You are a coach, a mentor, attuned to people career aspirations, a leader who creates positive climate in the workspace.

About the hiring group
Alexa Smart Properties (ASP) was founded in 2017 to build engaging Alexa experiences outside-the-home, and monetize those experiences by selling them to properties that want to engage their guests and residents, such as hotels, senior living communities, and rental apartments. This is a unique opportunity to build a customer facing product while building core platform capabilities to support enterprise use cases for all types of Alexa voice enabled devices (Echo Family Devices built by Amazon and 3P devices) into shared spaces.

We are looking for a passionate and creative Software Development Manager who has experience building innovative, mission critical, high volume applications that customers love. You will lead a team of talented, seasoned engineers to build enterprise capabilities for various types of Alexa voice-enabled devices and power multiple out of home market segments such as hotels, vacation rentals and much more. You will have an enormous opportunity to make a large impact on the design, architecture, and implementation of Alexa features that are used every day by people you know.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

7+ years of experience working directly with engineering teams
Experience in partnering with product and program management teams
3+ years of people management experience, managing engineers
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field
6+ years of experience designing and developing complex, interactive consumer applications as an engineer
5+ years of experience managing software development teams and with some hands-on architectural or distributed systems experience
Knowledge of the tools of the trade, including a variety of modern programming languages (Java, JavaScript, C/C++, Objective C) and open-source technologies
Experience in delivering software projects using Agile / Scrum methodologies
Experience managing and leading engineering teams

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience taking a leading role in building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers
Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
Experience communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior management to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
Experience mentoring junior software engineers to improve their skills and make them more effective product software engineers
Experience influencing software engineers best practices within your team
Hands-on expertise in many disparate technologies, ranging from front-end user interfaces through to back-end systems and all points in between
Knowledge of Alexa
