Position Summary

The Sr. SQL Server DBA/Technical Lead will be responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of critical SQL Server RDBMS systems, to ensure the availability and consistent performance of our corporate applications. This is a hands-on position requiring solid technical skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

This role will be responsible for the development and sustainment of the SQL Server environments (security, health and performance). Also the candidate will need to be familiar with architectural design and data flows to Data Warehouse/ODS environments, ensuring its operational readiness, executing data loads. This role will require an advanced knowledge of Windows Server OS, SQL Server and security protocols for hardening the server and SQL environments. This role will be heavily involved in auditing all systems owned by the Corporate Database and Middleware Department and act as a technical liaison during project discussions. Must be capable of working independently and collaboratively.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Manage SQL Server databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems.
* Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.
* Apply data modeling techniques to ensure development and implementation support efforts meet integration and performance expectations
* Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end. Must be an expert in performance tuning.
* Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes
* Assist developers with complex query tuning and schema refinement.
* Provide 24x7 support for critical production systems.
* Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours.
* Share domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and cross-training to other peers and team members.

Skills and Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in engineering and related fields.
* 10-15+ years MS SQL Server Administration experience required.
* Experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
* Experience with backups, restores and recovery models.
* Experience building and utilizing various High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for SQL Server.
* Experience with multiple database platforms a plus.
* The applicant will need to have a deep understanding of integrated security and be able to participate in troubleshooting activities.
* The ability to discuss database related topics with both technical & business audiences.
* Strong problem solving skills and a commitment to getting things done right.
* Experience in Installation, configuration and upgrades of SQL Servers.
* Monitor, optimize and report on system performance.
* Experience with Failover clustering and SAN replication.
* Experience with SQL Server merge, peer to peer, or transactional replication.
* Experience with LINQ, Entity Framework, NHibernate, or other ORMs.
* Experience with Service Broker.
* Experience with Analysis Services, Integration Services, or Reporting Services.
* Experience developing, managing and testing back-up and recovery plans.
* Experience with code migration of all objects following established change control procedures.
* Troubleshoot, investigate, offer and execute resolution to database issues.
* Monitor and report on database storage utilization.
* Experience with data warehousing, data access accountability.
* Writing T-SQL from scratch and C code, desired but not required.
* Experience in Performance Tuning and Index Design/Maintenance.
* Expert level understanding design and writing of PowerShell scripts within SQL Server and WMI.
* Expert in analyzing data to recognize data patterns for escalation.
* Experience working with Windows server, including Active Directory.
* Excellent written and verbal communication.
* Flexible, team player, get-it-done personality.
* Ability to organize and plan work independently.
* Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment.
