Essential Functions

* Operates imaging equipment following radiation safety guidelines based on hospital policy and regulatory requirements.
* Provides radiographic support to all areas of the Hospital as needed.
* Operates other patient care equipment/devices as appropriate oxygen, suction, syringes, monitors, blood pressure cuff, stethoscope, wheelchairs, stretchers and compression devices.
* Position patients accurately for specific anatomic imaging using appropriate immobilization devices when required. Avoids excessive repeated examinations by following guidelines.
* Calculates exposure factors for optimum quality studies.
* Provides radiation protection 100% of time to self, patients, visitors and other health care professionals. Adheres to all policies and procedures related to radiation safety per Providence Hospital and regulatory agencies.
* Evaluates images for technical quality and insures that quality is present before dismissing patients or submitting film for interpretation. Patient recalls must be kept to an absolute minimum.
* Initiates life support systems in a competent, capable and calm manner when necessary. Understands the operation of suction and oxygen. Basic understanding and familiarity with drugs in crash cart.
* Maintains certification-ARRT, SCRQSA. Assumes responsibility for continuing educational requirements required for continues certification.
* Maintains an awareness of costs-avoids waste of medical supplies, and takes care of equipment to avoid service costs.
* Enters required information into Meditech in a timely manner.
* Understands patient processing and patient records. Assists with maintaining patient records.
* Properly identifies patient, verifies orders, history and other relevant information to assist Radiologist with interpretation.
* Maintains work area in a neat/clean manner. Assures that assigned room/equipment is clean and well stocked each day.
* Maintains a flexible and helpful attitude toward schedule changes, unscheduled patients, room assignment changes, etc. Exhibits a willingness to alter shift assignments during a crisis or vacant positions.
* Possesses basic computer skills.
* Possesses the ability to perform work duties in a calm, organized and competent manner during heavy work periods.
* Shows a high level of initiative and performs any work duty that relates to patient care with a positive attitude.
* Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary provide care, based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in Radiology: Pediatric (1%) -1-12 years; Adolescent (9%) - 13-18 years; Adult (35%) -19-60 years; Geriatric (55%)-over 60 years

Job Requirements

Minimum Work Experience

Prior one year experience preferred.

Minimum Education/Credentials

Graduate of a 24-month approved School of Radiologic Technology or other approved training (i.e. military).

Required Licenses/Certifications

Certified by the State of SC.

BLS Obtained from the American Heart Association

Certified by The American Registry of Radiologic Technology or Registry eligible.

Training must have included care of patients of all ages-pediatric, teens, adult and geriatric patients. Technologists performing routine diagnostic radiography must become registered within one (1) year of employment.
