Job Description
Under direct supervision of a qualified person, perform all types of work involved in the installation, maintenance, rearrangement, operation, removal and inspection of de-energized electrical transmission and distribution facilities.
These essential functions are not intended to limit assignment of work or the degree of supervision under all operating conditions.

The following reference is provided as a guideline for persons responsible for directing the duties and responsibilities of assigned personnel, to assist in the safety and development of employees, and is not intended to limit assignment of work or the degree of supervision under all operating conditions:

DIRECT SUPERVISION - When a qualified person is working with/hands-on with the person performing the designated task.

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISION - When a qualified person is near the structure/equipment and is in constant visual and/or verbal contact to the person performing the designated task.

GENERAL SUPERVISION - An employee of equal or higher classification, knowledgeable of the task at hand and not necessarily at the job site.

QUALIFIED PERSON - Line Mechanic or Supervisor who is knowledgeable of the task or work to be performed, and is capable of performing the appropriate emergency rescue..

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1) Perform duties in accordance with the Company's safety rules, regulations and practices and report unsafe conditions and practices.

* Report irregularities and abnormal conditions.
* Patrol transmission lines using maps and drawings.
* Use proper hand signals for line work as required
* Perform all right-of-way control procedures in use of transmission lines

2) Install, maintain and repair overhead lines.

* Dig holes for poles, towers and anchors.
* Set poles, tower below-ground components, and guy anchorages.
* Replace or stub poles, dead or energized.
* Make up and install guys.
* Assemble tower components on the ground and in the air.
* Frame pole structures on the ground and in the air.
* Perform all right-of-way control procedures in use of transmission lines.
* Use proper methods to attach tools and materials to life ropes and cables, for installation or use in the air.
* Test and support poles before climbing as required.
* Operate miscellaneous transmission motor-driven tools.
* Select and apply proper knots.
* Perform rigging and tying off ropes.
* Use proper hand signals for line work as required.

3) Under direct supervision of a qualified person, assist in the use of live line tools, bare-hand techniques, rubber gloves and sleeves, and other accepted work methods to maintain transmission lines.

* Perform climbing maintenance on all transmission structures, except on cross-arms carrying energized conductors.

4) Make up conductor and shield wire splices, dead-ends and terminals.

* Identify conductor types and sizes.
* Set up reels for conductor installation.
* Install conductors and shield wires

5) Maintain tools, equipment and work area in a clean and orderly fashion.

6) Assist employees of equal or higher classification.

7) Attend and participate in training as assigned and assist in the training of other employees.

8) Perform similar or less skilled work.

9) Maintain records and submit reports as required.

* Properly prepare right-of-way items on field drawings

10) Operate automotive equipment and its associated equipment as authorized and directed by supervision.
* Operate truck-mounted lifting/pulling devices.
* Load and unload poles, steel and other materials.

Minimum Requirements **These positions are posted as a range from Transmission Line Mechanic C to Transmission Line Mechanic A. Qualifications, education, and experience will be considered in determining appropriate classification.

Education: High school graduate or GED
Experience: Minimum of 12 months satisfactory work experience as a Transmission Line Mechanic D or the equivalent (as determined by the Company through demonstration, examination and performance appraisal).

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

1. Successful completion of the Construction and Skilled Trades (CAST) selection test is required for this position. A physical abilities assessment is also required for this position.

2. Shall have performed the duties of and have all the qualifications of Transmission Line Mechanic D and 12 months of on the job experience or the equivalent. Equivalent experience is determined at the time of the assessment and appropriate time step credit will be given. Shall qualify through demonstration , examination and performance appraisal as determined by the Company.

3. Must demonstrate the ability and desire to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to perform the duties and/or responsibilities of the key job (Transmission Line Mechanic A) in this family.

4. Must acquire within such time frame as determined by the Company, the qualifications necessary to perform the duties of the next higher classification in the line of progression, or vacate the current job classification.

5. Must be familiar with the Company's transmission and distribution standards.

6. Must have the ability to interpret simple blueprints, one-line diagrams, instruction manuals and construction drawings.

7. Must have the ability to work aloft on transmission structures.

8. Must possess and maintain a valid commercial driver's license. Must meet all vehicle operation requirements as designated by federal and/or state law.

9. Must possess the ability to deal with employees, customers and the general public in a courteous and proper manner.

10. Considerable travel and overtime may be required with this position. Travel requirements are expected > 50 % of the time. 50% or more travel includes per diem of $125 per day.

11. Must successfully complete the Physical Ability Test (PAT)

12. Must reside within 45 miles of the assigned location and will have 6 months to relocate if applicable.

13. Must be available to work overtime, call-out overtime and shift work, as required.
