Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems Division designs, builds and delivers space, defense and aviation-related systems to customers around the world. Our main products include launch vehicles and related propulsion systems; missile products, subsystems and defense electronics; precision weapons, armament systems and ammunition; satellites and associated space components and services; and advanced aerospace structures.

The Systems Space Systems Group is seeking a mid-level Mechanical Designer and/or Checker to perform mechanical design and checking tasks on one or more spacecraft systems or subsystems.

The Mechanical Designer will work with other designers and engineers on Spacecraft Structures, Subsystems, Mechanisms, MGSE, or Proposals across multiple business areas to develop and enhance critical technical capabilities that drive our businesses. Skills include, but not limited to, Computer Aided Design (CAD), knowledge of Geometric Dimension and Tolerancing (GD amp;T), Engineering Drawings, and Design for Manufacturing.

Position Responsibilities:

* Perform model and drawing checking tasks per industry standards
* Work on all Spacecraft Structures, Payload, and Antenna mechanical hardware from requirements all the way through integration and test.
* Perform detailed design tasks using CreoParametric Computer Aided Design (CAD) and other software tools to develop and document designs for manufacturing and ultimately assembly into spacecraft
* Produce Mechanical drawings using industry standard GD amp;T processes
* Interface with Mechanical design and engineering team to produce efficient and manufacturable spacecraft parts and assemblies

Qualification

Basic Qualifications:

* 9 years of experience with a Bachelors Degree; 7 years of experience with a Masters; 4 years with a PhD. In lieu of a degree, 13 years of relevant experience will be considered.
* Ability to perform mechanical tasks associated with design and manufacturing of structures.
* Extensive experience with the Creo Computer Aided Design (CAD) software.
* Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD amp;T) standards and preparation of manufacturing documentation
* Be eligible to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite)

Preferred Qualifications:

* Experience with the fundamentals of spacecraft layout and design.
* Experience with 3D Printing, Design for Manufacturing, and hands-on hardware fabrication.
* Proficiency in Microsoft office suite.
