Our work depends on an Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) joining our team to support work for the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) in Rockville, Md.

As an Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) supporting NIAID, you will be trusted to work as a change agent by coordinating and facilitating the Security Assessment & Authorization (SA&A) process for the Operations & Engineering Branch of NIAID and liaise with other parts of the organization, interviewing and gathering information relevant to the ongoing SA&A activities, and drafting and revising cybersecurity artifacts as part of the SA&A documentation suite. In this role, the ISSO will be responsible for providing support for the design and delivery of cyber security systems and solutions for large enterprise networks and computing environments, defining security requirements and identifying applicable security controls per relevant enterprise security frameworks and standards. In this role a typical day will include:
* Collaborating with members of the Operations & Engineering Branch of NIAID to solve the need for a robust and comprehensive SA&A process,
* Collecting and analyzing cybersecurity data
* Managing Authorization to Operate (ATO) documentation suite
* Participating in the Security Assessment and Authorization (SA&A) process for NIAID IT infrastructure information systems.
* Working with system owners and subject matter experts (SMEs) to identify, collect, and document all elements of the cyber security posture of relevant systems.
* Identifying and documenting deficiencies in the cyber security posture of relevant systems, and working with system owners and SMEs to develop remediation plans.
* Tracking and reporting on the remediation of security deficiencies.
* Acting as a key contributor /stakeholder in the strategic planning, development and implementation of security services and solutions.
* Maintaining current knowledge of the information security field and the changing threat landscape, as well as tracking new developments in rapidly changing technologies and tools related to: intrusion detection/prevention, malware detection/prevention, data loss detection/prevention, forensics, security event management, identity and authentication, cloud computing, disaster recovery, business continuity, and enterprise vulnerability management.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

Required Qualifications:
* A Bachelors degree or equivalent
* Eight years of information technology systems assurance experience in systems, applications, or architecture
* Practical experience with cybersecurity policies, tools, and architecture
* Expert knowledge of NIST SP 800-53
* Knowledge of FISMA, FedRAMP, and other federal cybersecurity-related policies, directives, and mandates.
* Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust

Preferred Qualifications:
* Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Math, or other related scientific or technical discipline

*Note: This position is remote now but you must be able to work at the client site in Rockville, MD once COVID restrictions are lifted.
