At Facebook Reality Labs, we aim to achieve photorealistic telepresence at scale. We aspire to connect people separated by distance as if they were in the same room together. We are looking for an exceptional Research Engineering Manager with a proven track record in connecting research and engineering efforts towards longer term product targets. As a Research Engineering Manager at Facebook Reality Labs (FRL), you'll work closely with leading researchers and engineers to solve challenges at the forefront of computer vision, machine learning, and computer graphics that will transform telepresence from concept to a real service for the billions. You will support and mentor research engineering teams to innovate and harden research systems to become foundational infrastructure to build upon towards a global telepresence service.

Research Engineer Manager Responsibilities

* Lead and support a team of research engineers to build the full technology stack for telepresence.

* Be both a technical leader and people manager.

* Communicate cross-functionally and drive engineering efforts.

* Build technical relationships with research and engineering teams across the labs.

* Champion engineering and operational excellence, establishing metrics and process for regular assessment and improvement.

* Establish project frameworks and development processes.

* Communicate with the leadership.

Minimum Qualifications

* 5+ years of people management experience in multi-disciplinary global teams at the intersection of tech and product, including building performing teams and organization.

* 10+ years of software engineering work experience, including 5+ years experience of hands-on technical management.

* Experience in one or more of the following domains: Computer vision, Computer Graphics, Machine Learning, Robotics, Audio Processing.

* Demonstrated experience in recruiting and managing technical teams, including performance management.

* Leadership and interpersonal communication experience in working across many disciplines, drive best practices, and mentor team members.

* BS degree in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

* PhD in computer vision, computer graphics, machine learning, or audio processing.

* Experience leading a team to ship version one consumer software products.

* Experience managing teams productizing Computer Vision, 3D Machine perception or AI/Machine Learning technologies from conception to end.

* Experience managing joint hardware-software development and associated rapid prototyping project.
