WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

Were looking for an experienced state and local tax attorney to join our Tax Controversy & Policy team in Beaverton, Oregon. Our tax attorneys deliver value to the NIKE businesses by efficiently resolving tax controversy matters, influencing legislative and regulatory tax policy, and by providing support with respect to tax aspects of mergers and acquisitions. Our best tax attorneys are strong communicators and extraordinary negotiators. They are able to work both independently and as a team, have knowledge of substantive and procedural state tax law, and apply critical and strategic thinking with a focus on risk mitigation.

WHAT WILL YOU WORK ON?

If this is you, youll lead all aspects of state income tax controversy matters (audits, appeals and litigation), work closely with Government & Policy Affairs to promote NIKEs state tax legislative and regulatory priorities, conduct tax due diligence for mergers and acquisition transactions, and negotiate, draft and review tax provisions in deal documents. You will also conduct other tax research and tax position strategy development as needed to support various Global Tax teams and projects. You will be responsible for keeping up with state tax and regulatory proposals and changes and working with other teams to understand their impact on NIKE businesses.

WHO WILL YOU WORK WITH?

Youll be the lead for state income tax controversy and policy matters reporting to the Sr. Director, Tax Controversy & Policy. In addition, you will team up with the Corporate Development team to provide support on mergers & acquisitions. This is a highly visible role that will directly interact and engage with teammates within Global Tax and across a variety of other function such as Treasury, Controlling and Government & Policy Affairs.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING?

* J.D required and LLM in Taxation is preferred.
* 10+ years of state tax experience involving a mix of planning, controversy, mergers and acquisitions and policy experience either at a law firm, accounting firm or as in-house tax counsel.
* Experience managing outside advisors.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to detail.
* Strong analytical thinking, ability to work in a fast-paced environment with excellent prioritization, project management and organizational skills
* Strong communication skills, including the ability to coordinate effectively with various subject matter specialists and business partners.
* Broad network of tax professionals including outside advisors and other in-house tax professionals.
