About the role:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Sustaining R&D Engineer maintaining and developing leading TAVR Structural Heart core products within the Interventional Cardiology division. Products supported include: Cerebral embolic protection system, transfemoral insertion sheaths, guidewires and balloons. This role independently, or as a member of a team, develops, directs, and executes plans for a major segment of complex projects. Compiles and analyzes operational, test, and research data to establish technical specifications for designing or modifying products, processes, and materials.
Your responsibilities include:
* Use of design change process to ensure the proposed changes are systematically and thoroughly analyzed before beginning the change process. Whenever product changes are proposed, justification is documented, or data is collected to verify that the design intent is still met.
* Work collaboratively with manufacturing to reduce product costs through design improvements
* Maintain product performance through Quality Investigations and ensuring rigorous support for design changes
* Works independently to plan and schedule own activities necessary to meet timelines
* Designs and coordinates standard engineering tests and experiments
* Designs, procures and fabricates tooling and fixtures
* Performs troubleshooting on products/process problems as related to design, material or process
* Lead CAPA (corrective and preventative) projects
* Summarizes, analyzes and draws conclusions from test results
* Prepares standard reports/documentation to communicate results to technical community
* Responsible for engineering documentation
* Invents/creates concepts and designs for new products/processes, and submits idea disclosures
* May train and/or provide work direction to junior engineers and technicians
* Works cross-functionally with project management, quality, manufacturing, regulatory, clinical and marketing to ensure project success
* Support integration of newly acquired technologies into Boston Scientific
* Demonstrates design control knowledge through delivery of high-quality deliverables
What were looking for:
Minimum Qualifications
* BS in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering
* Required minimum years of work experience: 5 years with BS, or 3 years with MS
* Strong mechanical engineering skills, specifically with catheters, machined and injection molded components, design for manufacturability and planning.
* Solid lab experience to develop and debug fixtures, and test equipment.
* Expertise in design simulation tools and analysis techniques.
* Ability to provide technical leadership as it relates to product and process design.
* Ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations based on technical inputs from multiple and varied sources.
* Excellent organizational, communication and collaboration skills.
* Ability to travel on brief visits to BSC production site in Costa Rica
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience with catheter development, extrusion, and guidewire development.
* Experience with CAPA process
* Experience with rapid prototyping to excelerate proof of concepts.
* Experience with tolerance stackup analysis.
* 6 Sigma green or black belt certifications.
