Description
Under general supervision, provides technical support and guidance for Environmental projects and programs at assigned site.
* Installs, operates, and maintains environmental and emission monitoring instruments and testing equipment; analyzes data for compliance with regulatory requirements
* Evaluates and assesses environmental risk and develops programs for risk reduction
* Collaborates in recommending appropriate action to management in compliance with regulations
* Reviews and/or prepares and maintains detailed records and files of environmental data and communications
* Evaluates and administers contracts with vendors for the provision of services and equipment
* Maintains basic working knowledge of national, regional and local environmental, occupational health, and other applicable regulations
* Maintains knowledge of site environmental policies and procedures
* May provide leadership to less experienced Engineers and Technicians
* May serve as Project Manager or technical expert on small to medium-sized environmental projects (e.g., compliance, remediation, or reclamation)
* Leads or participates in regular audits and inspections of operations areas for purposes of ensuring compliance with site environmental policies, procedures and requirements of the Environmental Management System
* Coordinates the timely recycling and disposition of materials and other company assets in compliance with applicable legal and other requirements
* Tracks and reports the recycling and disposition of materials and other company assets as directed
* Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
* Bachelors degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Technology, Earth Science or related natural science (such as Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Hydrology, Forestry, Agriculture, Meteorology, Environmental/Natural Resource Management) or Mathematics/Computer Science including Accounting and Finance, or, Business Management or other Bachelors degree, and at least three (3) years environmental or related experience, OR
* Masters degree in a related field and at least one (1) year environmental or related experience.
* Additional certification or licensure appropriate to the job may be required or preferred: (US Examples include: HAZWOPER, Method 9, DOT, EMS Auditor, Asbestos, Water Treatment Operator, or CHMM.)
Preferred
This posting is for an environmental position at several different locations. The preferred candidate will have knowledge and or experience in one or more of the following areas:
* Strong leadership skills including safe work practices and project management.
* Experience gathering data and preparing Toxic Release Inventories (TRI) and Chemical Data Reporting (CDR).
* Working experience managing hazardous and non-hazardous waste compliance programs and projects including experience managing demolition and asbestos projects.
* Experience managing Storm Water Pollution Prevention Programs (SWPPP), Multi-Sector General Permits (MSGP), storm water best management practices (BMPs), ground and surface water sampling and analysis, Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure (SPCC), and drinking water programs.
* Experience with air quality permitting, compliance monitoring and reporting, and Method 9 observations.
* Experience supervising employees.
* Industrial environmental experience, preferably in mining.

* Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment
* Work is in a mine or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles
* While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see
* Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 30 pounds) during the course of the workday
* Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required
* Freeport-McMoRan promotes a drug/alcohol free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing and on-going random drug testing
