Department Overview

Pacific Gas and Electric Company's Customer Operations and Enablement organization develops and leads a customer centric operations organization that spans the entire meter to cash process, including meter testing, customer billing, payment processing, credit and collection policy, pricing strategy and implementation and operations.

Position Summary

We are looking for an AMI Technology Principal to lead the development and implementation of the company's future AMI technology roadmap. In this role, you will further optimize the AMI footprint within the enterprise to realize more benefits. You will consolidate and lead the portfolio management and evaluation of AMI related technology, projects, pilots, and use cases with the goal to operationalize advanced capabilities and features into utility operations for improving the company's safety, environmental, reliability, operational, and customer service performance.

You will develop key internal partnerships with the Customer Care organization, Electric Operations, Gas Operations, Information Technology, Technology Development Committees, and other organizations. You will also engage and partner with external customers, cities, institutions, national labs, strategic partners, AMI vendors, and utility companies. Success in this role will be measured by the successful planning and execution of the AMI technology roadmap over several years and the additional benefits realized with AMI technologies and data.

This position requires a strong ability to work effectively across organizational boundaries and engage with a diverse set of internal & external stakeholders and asset owners. A strong applicant will be an organized, strategic, motivated, and a focused consensus builder, who can lead and influence high performing cross functional technical and non-technical project teams in a fast-paced environment.

Reporting Relationship

This position reports to the Director of AMI Infrastructure in Customer Operations and Enablement.

Job Responsibilities

* Portfolio manage the evaluation of Advanced Meter Infrastructure projects across the enterprise
* Lead AMI RFx process to evaluate and recommend AMI technologies for mass replacement
* Develop and implement the future AMI technology roadmap and asset lifecycle risk mitigations
* Liaison with LOBs, Committees, and Information Technology to develop the optimal infrastructure
* Oversee strategic AMI technology plans and works with the LOB on planning to implementation
* Benchmark industry best practices; Apply learnings to improve safety, operations, customer service
* Engage internal partners through the enterprise to gain strategic alignment on AMI technology plans
* Engage external cities, institutions, national labs, & strategic partners to inform and develop the plan
* Transition and deploy successful AMI technology, applications, and software into utility operations
* Manage asset life cycle to optimize asset performance and return on investment to the company
* Provide subject matter expertise & input to cross prioritization of AMI related projects in the enterprise
* Prepares cross-functional business cases, project authorizations, and integrated technology plans
* Ensures all AMI projects are strategically aligned with enterprise roadmap and future integration plans
* Ensures CPUC commitments are met; Supports regulatory agency proceedings and inquiries
* Oversees communication, training, and technology implementation with field personnel as applicable
* Tracks metrics providing data for AMI technology projects/use cases and its operational effectiveness
* Presents recommendations to officers and high-level leaders and various levels of employees
* Represents PG&E in external industry forums to share AMI applications and to learn from others

Qualifications

Minimum:

* Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent experience
* 10 years of relevant, job-related experience, and in a regulated environment

Desired:

* Master's degree in job-related discipline
* Demonstrated project management experience; Ability to influence cross-functional teams
* Demonstrated experience in managing technology strategy and roadmap development programs
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Knowledge and experience with advanced meter infrastructure and meter to cash operations
* Knowledge and experience of advanced use cases leveraging newer AMI features and capabilities
* Knowledge and expertise with Enterprise IT Infrastructure planning, development, and implementation
* Comprehensive understanding and experience in utility operations and work execution processes
* Demonstrated experience in managing cross-functional disciplines from multiple lines of business
* Ability to manage a portfolio of technology projects plans and adjust it in order to meet deadlines
* Experience in technology evaluation and data analytics use cases to improve operations and safety
* Experience in developing and managing multi-year technology development plans and budgets
* Knowledge and experience with governing safety/environmental/work standards and regulations
* Knowledge and experience in advanced data analytics using various data sources SAP, ILIS Outage Management, Customer Care Information and Billing, Geographic Information Systems, Other
* Advanced knowledge of project and program management concepts, methods and practices
* Ability to influence, adjust communications, and present to various levels of employees in company
