Corporate headquarters are in Wilmington, DE with corporate Research & Development facilities and Engineering offices and laboratories located at several Wilmington area sites. DuPont Engineering Technology Center (ETC) supports capital projects and supports manufacturing sites as expert consultants. Within ETC, there are approximately 50 engineers working to enable revenue growth by transforming R&D discovery into commercial products and to increase productivity of manufacturing assets.
Currently, ETC has an opening in its Advanced Controls Technologies group. This group offers leveraged support for the development and commissioning of advanced regulatory and model based process control applications for all DuPont manufacturing facilities worldwide.
The successful candidate in this position will provide automation and process control consulting and technical services to DuPont businesses in support of improvement programs that increase capacity & yields, improve quality and reduce energy, and major capital projects; validate the successful operation of applications and solutions to realize the objectives of these technical programs and projects; work extensively with research and development, manufacturing and technical personnel, project leaders and team members, full service design contractors, and other technology consultants and functional specialists to ensure business needs are met through the appropriate application of process automation and process control technology.
Responsibilities
* Develop and employ dynamic process models and simulations in support of chemical process commercialization efforts
* Employs systems thinking and practices by integrating data, know-how, and key process development assumptions across multiple technology work streams and global locations via modeling and evaluation packages
* Identify process control improvement opportunities at various chemical manufacturing sites
* Conduct the necessary operability analysis (or control design) to troubleshoot existing (or develop new) process control applications
* Support the implementation and successful commissioning of these applications.

Job Qualification
Minimum Skills required
* PhD or Masters degree in Chemical Engineering with 10-15 years experience in process industries
* Demonstrated knowledge of Chemical Engineering principles, thermodynamic, kinetic, mass and heat transfer, and simplifying assumptions employed in the dynamic modeling and control of manufacturing processes
* Experience with the discipline of model building, diagnostics and validation
* Experience with dynamic simulation and operability analysis of process plants
* Working knowledge of Java and C++ or similar programming languages
* Demonstrated communication skills with ability to develop and articulate the merit of proposals for technical improvement programs in a consulting organization
* Demonstrated interpersonal skills with ability to work collaboratively with plant personnel (Mechanics, Engineers, Management) at all levels and with multiple disciplines
* Proven ability to work with minimal supervision
* Demonstrated ability to take initiative and be creative and innovative
* Successful experience working with large teams
* Ability to learn quickly and willing to expand his knowledge and develop skills in related fields of the competency
* Highly motivated and results-driven
Desirable Skills
* Experience with batch process requirements and standard batch control methods (ISA S88)
* Experience with distillation and boiler controls
* Experience with commercial control systems such as Emerson DeltaV, ABB 800xA, and Rockwell Plant PAx
* Working knowledge of commercial modeling software such as Matlab, Mathematica, Aspen Engineering Suite, gPROMS
* Knowledge of system and parameter identification principles and techniques
* Experience with Knowledge Management techniques and systems
