Ennis Regional Medical Center

Provides direct patient care to patients using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice.

Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment.
Documents patient care given.
Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family.
Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
Implements measures to decrease patients pre-operative anxiety and addresses spiritual and emotional needs. Sensitive to the patients familys spiritual and emotion needs during the patients peri-operative stay.
Verifies all pertinent documentation and records are present in the patients medical record prior to transportation to the Operating Room.
Employs aseptic technique in the performance of surgical duties and consistently monitors for breaks in technique. Displays a strong sterile conscience.
Initiates the time out protocol prior to the commencement of each and every procedure. Confirms patient, procedure, laterality and site marking when applicable, fire risk score, availability of supplies/implants, and all other elements of the time out.
Assists in the operating room set up and clean up. Prepares the OR efficiently and according to Physicians Preference List, patient needs and unit policy. Executes a quick and efficient room turnover.
Responsible for the thorough completion of all required documentation during the intra-operative period including but not limited to the intra-operative record, charges, implant record, specimen and/or lab requisitions.
Handles and documents specimens appropriately, according to policy.
Participates in the management and cost effective utilization of resources and supplies. Assists director in implementing changes to increase cost effectiveness.
Gives thorough reports at temporary and permanent relief of personnel and at hand-off of patient to next level of care.

Job Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent X Required
BSN Preferred

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
One to two years operating room experience preferred.

BLS required
ACLS required within 6 months of employment
PALS preferred
State of Texas current RN license
