Job Description
The VP of Programming, Live Journalism and Events will join the ambitious group of professionals who compose the Live Journalism team. Role overview
The VP of Programming, Live Journalism and Events is responsible for leading the Live Journalism Programming team, and ensuring all events and programs are designed and planned to improve the members learning and networking experience and to promote client retention. We are searching for a strong leader who is a data-driven decision maker that leads the ideation, development and execution of new programs, event formats, and more.
This role reports to the GM, Live Journalism & Events and oversees the Programming team globally. Additionally, this person is responsible for ensuring the seamless and efficient operation of the programming team, the collaboration with the newsroom on content and speaker acquisition, the timely deliveries of calendars, the hiring, onboarding and training of team members, and the ongoing support of each individuals growth and development.
Responsibilities
* Work with the GM, Live Journalism & Events to implement a successful programming strategy, and to develop consistent standards to ensure best practices
* Lead a global team to meet institutional timelines, conduct research, procure talent and invite and secure the highest-level speakers/panelists and moderators who will draw press, audience and sponsors.
* Work with the News and Live Journalism team to create a slate of programming that can be delivers on mission, brand and financial goals across all media platforms
* Schedule and run regular programming meetings with editors. Monitor and manage communications between the programming team, editors and selected speakers
* Keep internal stakeholders (editorial, marketing, membership, sponsorship, press) updated on all speaker and content information that is relevant to them in a timely manner
* Work collaboratively with Live Journalism Sales functions on integrating program sponsorship, ensuring custom sessions deliver the same value to audience as editor-led sessions
* Work collaboratively with Professional Membership team, ensuring details needed for program marketing are available in a timely fashion
* Provide operational leadership on project teams and subteams
Qualifications/Requirements
* 10+ years conference programming experience with B2B or B2C brands
* Passionate about content
* Extensive and ongoing knowledge of the industry competitive landscape
* Demonstrate a high level of professionalism while working with senior policy makers and c-level executives and their offices
* Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
* Possess a contact list of senior level relationships in the industry with the ability to create new relationships
* Proven track record in planning and executing conferences and business summits on time and within budget.
* Thorough knowledge and understanding of the issues and key players in the media/communications industry.
* Proven knowledge of trends, best practices and debates in the industry.
* Proven ability to meet deadlines.
* Outstanding leadership skills and ability to lead cross functional teams.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Excellent interpersonal, supervisory, administrative and managerial skills
* Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail.
* Resourcefulness, creativity and strong problem solving skills.
* Self starter and positive attitude
* Ability to maintain poise under pressure
* Travel is required
