Position Summary

The Senior Field Leader Underground Construction will be responsible for the new Electric Underground Construction organization with regional responsibility. The team will mature to include approximately 60 resources who will install new business electric facilities and bore operations focusing on meeting Customer On Time Delivery and New Service Installation Factor metric success.

Responsibilities

* Provide direct supervision to 1-5 Field Leader Exempt employees and oversight through the field leaders for up to 60 union employees including the accountability for safe working procedures, compliance with regulations, and engagement of the team.
* Support work disciplines including electric underground distribution construction and retirement, directional bore operations, and soft and hard surface property restoration (lawn and pavement).
* Train and provide technical expertise to electric distribution field employees.
* Positively and frequently interact with customers.
* Direct work activities to meet established work plans and objectives.
* Lead and collaborate with peers, employees and partnering organizations to create/maintain a work environment that reaches common goals of safety, compliance, quality, productivity, diversity, equity and inclusion.

Required Qualifications

* 8 or more years applicable work experience, including 5 or more years of experience in utility operations or related area.
* Management experience in utility operations (electric, natural gas, renewables).
* Safety rules (Internal and OSHA/MIOSHA).
* Working Agreement knowledge and use, skilled in negotiating local agreements with the union and settling grievances. Also need to understand statewide impact of agreements.
* Leadership skills and training of CE Way.
* MPSC Performance Standards. Contractual interpretations.
* Ability to make command decisions in stressful situations with incomplete information which may affect employees/public safety, system integrity, and speed of restoration.

This position will be available at the Parnall Office in Jackson or any Electric Operations Headquarters in Michigan (Adrian, Alma, Battle Creek, Bay City, Benzonia, Big Rapids, Boyne City, Cadillac, Clare, Coldwater, East Tawas, Flint, Fremont, Grand Rapids, Hamilton, Hastings, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Kentwood, Lansing, Marshall, Midland, Norton Shores, Owosso, Saginaw, Sparta, Temperance, Traverse City, West Branch) where there is space available.

In addition, during this time of uncertainty, we are committed to ensuring the safety and health of our communities and co-workers. We are using new and innovative ways to interview and onboard new employees remotely at this time. This role will be work-from-home until our leadership team has determined it's safe to resume work in the office.

Essential Functions

The Senior Field Leader is responsible for:

* Leading employees in the safe and efficient execution of work of assigned underground construction activities.
* Responsible for the planning, organizing, coordinating, evaluating and supervising the work of employees assigned to the operation and construction of underground electric systems, customer electric services, buildings and grounds or utility support areas.
* Responds to complaints and requests for information on the status of jobs in progress to a high degree of accuracy.
* Inspects job sites to check on work progress, assure satisfactory completion and plans new assignments, prepares requisitions for operations and maintenance supplies, equipment and materials and supervises special projects as required.
* Conducts regular safety meetings, participates as a member of safety committee; investigates and completes necessary incident reports and accident reports; maintains records, prepares and submits required reports for appropriate agencies.
* Will be required to hold a leadership storm restoration role, incident commander and/or lead crews in field, including field control.
* Responsible for the planning, organization, coordination, evaluation and supervision of employees assigned to the operation, maintenance and construction of Electric distribution systems, customer Electric services, electric generation plant facilities, buildings and grounds or utility support areas.
* Recommends proposed changes and enhancements to systems and facilities operation; responds to complaints and requests for information; prepares and maintains reports of completed job orders and the status of jobs in progress.
* Inspects job sites to check on work progress, assures satisfactory completion and plans new assignments; prepares requisitions for operations and maintenance supplies, equipment and materials and supervises special projects as required.
* Conducts regular safety meetings, participates as a member of safety committee; investigates and completes necessary incident reports and accident reports; maintains records, prepares and submits required reports for appropriate agencies.
* Implements preventative maintenance programs.
* Individuals should exemplify safe work practices and follow the Companys compliance standards.
* Regular attendance is expected.

Hours and Travel

* This position requires the individual to work a minimum of 40 hours per week with a majority of the time spent in the office or specific field locations and virtually.
* All salaried Electric Operations employees are required to have a storm role.
* Individual is required to work additional hours as necessary to meet deadlines or assist with storm or emergency restoration activities and could be given very short notice to do so.
* Individual is required to participate as necessary in the on-call rotation in case of potential storms.
* Individual may have to work outside of assigned headquarters to help with storm restoration which may require overnight stays.
* Could potentially work a flexible schedule to meet the demands of the customer, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime.
* The work takes place in all weather conditions--the ability to work in the elements is an expected part of this position.
* Individual must have a valid drivers license.
