Job Summary: 

The Final Mile Business Development Director drives strategic growth for CRST’s Home Solutions business by securing major retail partnerships and launching scalable final mile delivery programs. This role combines a sales mindset with a strong operational understanding to deliver customer-focused solutions in high-touch, large-format delivery environments. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

Strategic Sales - Win major retail accounts that generate $10M+ in new revenue within the first year 
Retail Targeting - Engage national retailers with complex final mile needs in furniture, appliances and home goods 
Solution Design - Build programs that scale, partnering closely with operations to ensure execution and service 
Customer Focus - Act as a trusted advisor, solving pain points and shaping solutions that align with customer goals 
Operational Alignment - Support launches and represent the voice of the customer during handoffs to operations 
Collaboration - Work across departments to ensure service, quality and customer experience remain top priorities 
Accountability & Reliability - Maintain regular and reliable attendance while performing other duties as assigned to support team and business needs 

Requirements: 

Education - High School Diploma or GED 
Business Development Experience - 5+ years in retail logistics, final mile or transportation services with proven results landing large accounts 
Retail Network - Established connection with national or regional retailers in home delivery sectors 
Operational Acumen - Strong understanding of logistics execution and the ability to speak the language of operations with customers 
Operations Background - Prior experience in logistics or transportation operations is highly preferred 
Strategic Sales Mindset - Ability to sell complex, service-driven solutions based on customer goals and operational alignment 

Preferred Qualifications:  

Education - Four-year college degree or relevant certifications 
High-Touch Sales - Experience selling value-based solutions where execution, trust and service are competitive advantages 
Communication - Strong communicator with executive presence and the ability to influence key decision-makers 
Self-Directed - Results-driven self-starter capable of operating independently while delivering measurable impact 
Integrity - High ethical standards and commitment to building long-term strategic partnerships

Our Roots

In 1955, Herald and Miriam Smith started Cedar Rapids Steel Transport out of a refurbished chicken coop they bought for $125.

At the time, they had no trucks and no customers, but Herald, known as “Smitty,” convinced firms he could save them money. He contracted with owner/operators who were hauling livestock to Chicago to return to the Cedar Rapids area with loads of steel instead of empty trucks. Family-owned to this day, CRST has evolved from a trucking firm to one of the nation’s leading providers of transportation solutions.
