Job Description

Primary Purpose:

Performs Track Inspection on an assigned territory to provide a safe, fast, and reliable infrastructure network at the lowest possible cost.  Assists with the training and supervision of track employees on an assigned territory.

Principal Duties:

Inspects all assigned track, both company as well as customer owned, as required by company and federal requirements. Detects abnormalities in the track structure and is able to determine the proper course of action for immediate correction, whenever possible, or other remedial action to protect the movement of trains without unnecessary delay.
Assumes the responsibilities and duties of his manager on alternate weekends and holidays, and whenever the manager is absent.
Provides necessary inspection record reports, and assists with correspondence, material requisitions, charge-outs, payroll approval, procurement, and credit card review.
Assists in planning and organizing the work to be done on a territory within the authorized budget.
Must have FRA certification for track/bridge inspection, roadway worker in charge (RWIC) qualification, and knowledge of Norfolk Southern Safety and Operating Rules.
