Job Description

Your daily routine?

You are part of a team responsible for the creation, implementation and delivery of the bank's Office of Foreign Assets Control ("OFAC") Sanctions Training curriculum, the preparation and publication of OFAC Sanctions Notices to the Financial Security community, and the coordination and animation of the International Financial Sanctions Compliance Officer ("IFSCO") Program, as well as the execution of certain Sanctions governance initiatives.

As such, you interface with necessary counterparts (e.g., other GFS U.S. teams, GFS Paris & KYC, LFS, etc.) to ensure consistent standards and the responsible performance of the teams’ missions. The typical day consists of virtual or in-person meetings and calls with the aforementioned stakeholders. GFS U.S. within BNP Paribas Group Compliance is responsible for the overall supervision and coordination of the Group’s efforts to comply with U.S. and other Sanctions and Embargoes as well as for the OFAC Compliance Program. In performing this critical mandate, GFS U.S. partners closely with other relevant Functions and interlocutors in Head Office as well as Local Compliance. N&L in GFS U.S. is widely viewed as a central unit driving the implementation of norms and learning initiatives in a Financial Security context. You work on a wide variety of topics contributing to your development of a versatile skill set as well as a broad body of experience to support ongoing career growth.

The working environment is important!

The GFS U.S. Norms and Learning (N&L) team is comprised of two groups: 1. Learning - Training, Communication and Governance (“TCG”) and 2. Norms, the latter unit which is responsible for producing and maintaining Group norms related to Sanctions and managing all types of exceptions on sanctions-related norms.

Under the leadership of the Head of TCG, who reports to the Head of N&L, TCG contains three distinct work streams: 1. Training - involving Sanctions-related training content creation, review and delivery; 2. Communication - focused on the creation, validation and dissemination of Sanctions-related communications as well as the coordination and animation of the IFSCO Program; and 3. Governance - conducting oversight of Sanctions governance (including the Sanctions Committee), special projects and transversal topics.

TCG maintains a strong spirit of collaboration and dynamism including the ability to work with agility in managing the challenge of being viewed as a central animation unit among the other six verticals within GFS U.S.

The team is currently based in New York and the work setup is a hybrid environment with two mandatory in-office days and three days remote. The commute is supported by a robust system of subways, bus and even ferry service. The GFS U.S. entity is well regarded as a vital domain of financial security expertise reporting directly into Paris. The culture of the organization is well balanced with a rich diversity of national origin and language.

The next steps?

You will gain valuable technical and professional skills to support career development such as: increased understanding of the bank's organizational structure, its sanctions risks and evolving regulatory expectations; communication and interpersonal skills; enhancement of "soft" professional skills, including but not limited to: responsiveness, rigor, agility, follow-through, independence of deliverables, decision-making, judgment, flexibility, ability to adapt to change and pressure situations, teamwork; analytical and problem solving skills; development of expertise relating to various training platforms and policies/procedures as well as tools/committees; and a willingness to embody bank values. You will develop new approaches to potential and ongoing issues through strategic thinking under management supervision. The learning will enable pursuit of a career in financial security or of a more generalist path where the skills acquired would be of great benefit.
