Position Description:
The Database Systems Analyst / DBA is a technical IT position involving the support of relational databases and other database tools. This position will need to have a good understanding of database administration responsibilities, data models and database monitoring tools and will be supporting databases that host critical data for in-house and third-party applications. You will be responsible for understanding the key concepts of database administration (performance management/tuning, upgrades, patching, maintenance, database back-ups/recoveries, table/index reorganizations and start-up/shutdown procedures). This role should have some experience with operating system (Windows, Linux, UNIX) administration ( i.e., general command syntax, memory management, security concepts, file system manipulation and monitoring).
Principal Responsibilities:
Support non-mission, critical systems (test/development) with little support or assistance. Support enterprise-wide, mission-critical databases and related projects with assistance. Ensure sound physical design to support application requirements with minimal assistance.
Work closely with operating system and application administrative personnel to ensure space requirements, back-up procedures and performance needs are being met. Participate in the analysis and design function for new/existing systems to ensure adherence to technical standards, data standards and integration with other applications
Write efficient structured query language (SQL) statements and operating system scripts independently. Support database back-up and recovery procedures. Troubleshoot problems and recommend appropriate actions. Document standard database system processes/procedures. Open incidents and work with software vendors to solve software issues. Participate in on-call support rotation with team - Resolving database alerts.
Analyze/Participate in the security and data integrity controls for all of the computerized database resources. May be involved with the planning, design and implementation of databases on a variety of platforms. May participate in the implementation of systems and application software.
Perform database software patching/upgrades, working with application owners. Follow database team controls and Sarbanes Oxley-Act (SOX) processes for all database changes
Required Experience and Education:
Bachelors’ degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Engineering, MIS, Technology
In lieu of degree, 8 years of IT experience.
3+ years of experience in Information Technology with 1+ years of experience in database systems - Desired
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Intermediate understanding of operating systems, client/server architecture and standards
Intermediate understanding of the currently used database applications
Knowledge of data modeling, logical/physical database design and implementation
Good understanding of middleware standards, networking technology and protocols
Good troubleshooting skills
