JOB DESCRIPTION
The Storage Integrity and Risk Engineer position will provide technical support and oversight of the operation, maintenance, integrity, and capital improvements involving Consumers Energy gas storage facilities. The primary focus of this role is advancing the maturity of the Storage Integrity Management Program (SIMP) through interpretation and compliance with Federal, State and all other applicable regulations.
The Storage Integrity and Risk Engineer will be responsible for the SIMP and maturing risk assessments. The individual must have a strong background in engineering and data analysis, as well as strong technical writing and verbal communication skills. The individual must be a motivated self-starter, as well as possess a desire to learn and work within a team environment. The individual must be proficient organizing and prioritizing work activities.
The Storage Integrity and Risk Engineer will review the regulatory requirements governing underground gas storage, provide guidance and be instrumental in discussions with the gas storage engineering team in various aspects, including:
Storage Integrity Management Plan revisions and advancing program maturity
Risk management process and program maturity
Risk reduction through strategic storage field planning
Regulatory related program inspections and field audits
Maintenance and validation of the risk model
Implementation of new risk modeling software
Compliance with Underground Natural Gas Storage Regulations: 49 CFR Part 192. 12 (including API RP 1171) and EGLE Part 615
Development and maintenance of SIMP related process maps, standards, and procedures
Record documentation and retention
Development and management of on-going metrics to measure the success (through asset risk reduction) of well rehabilitation, new well drilling, lateral replacements, and regulatory compliance
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
The Storage Integrity and Risk Engineer role may be filled as a General Engineer I or General Engineering Technical Analyst I based the following qualifications:
General Engineer I → Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited university, and a minimum of two (2) or more years of applied engineering working experience.
General Engineering Technical Analyst I → Bachelor's degree in a scientific/technical field, and two (2) or more years of exempt experience. (OR) Associate's degree in a scientific/technical field with six (6) years of experience in the specific field (OR) ten (10) years Company or industry experience in positions that demonstrate required abilities and performance.
PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with Risk Engineering/Risk Modeling/Asset Integrity
Familiarity with API RP 1171, Underground Natural Gas Storage Regulations or other recommended practices associated with risk management
Advanced degree in Engineering, risk, technical communication, or another related field
Professional Engineer (PE) certification or the ability to earn certification within 5 years
Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills
Excellent organizational skills
Experience with Tableau, Business Intelligence, JANA or Python software
Adaptable to change and willing to learn/adopt new skills as needed
