Job Description

This position is located at the Climax Mine site off of CO-91 between Silverthorne, CO and Leadville, CO. This is a rural, alpine area approximately two hours from the Denver metropolitan area. The mine is at an altitude of approximately 11,300 feet. In the winter, the average high temperature is 25 degrees and the average low is 2 degrees. In the summer, the average high temperature is 71 degrees and the average low is 38 degrees. The average snowfall in Lake County is in excess of 280 inches per year.

Description

Highly skilled mechanic who safely performs diagnostic, maintenance and repair of heavy equipment such as, but not limited to: Haul Trucks, Water Trucks, Rubber Tire and Track Dozers, Front-end Loaders, and Motor Graders.

Perform the removal, repair and installation of transmissions, engines, brakes, differentials, pumps, motors, torque converters, final drives and other heavy equipment systems or components
Perform mechanical and lubrication preventive maintenance on machine systems such as: hydraulic, power train and engines
Prioritize and make decisions regarding equipment repair as needed
Responsible for maintaining work orders and performing work area inspections
Operate mobile equipment such as: overhead cranes, forklifts, and boom trucks
Perform welding such as: Carbon Arc, Plasma, MIG, TIG, and Stick
Perform as a Fill-in Supervisor as required
Train and mentor other employees
Perform other duties as required

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Two (2) years of experience in Heavy Equipment mechanical maintenance or a combination of education and experience in industrial mechanical repair and maintenance
Ability to prioritize repairs and possess excellent decision making skills
Ability to troubleshoot machine systems
Ability to work and effectively communicate with others
Ability to read and use blueprints

Preferred

High School diploma or GED

Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English
Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment
While performing duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear, see and work in confined spaces
Occasionally may be asked required to life moderately heavy to heavy objectsup to fifty (50) pounds during the course of the workday
Will be required to work rotating shifts in a 24/7/365 operation
Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required
