About the Position:

The Director of Release Engineering is a seasoned technology leader who stays abreast of the latest developments in the industry. They use Agile and DevOps principles and practices to enable delivery of high quality, secure, scalable, and performant software products to customers quickly and efficiently. The Director of Release Engineering will help Ceridian meet its goal of 10x growth and continue our DevOps transformation by leading and growing key software engineering enablement functions such as tool, framework and standards development for CI/CD, continuous testing, and code, build, configuration, and release management.

The Release Engineering group at Ceridian strives to drive improvement across the entire company by enabling development teams to work more efficiently and safely, deliver value to customers faster, and continuously learn and improve. We aim to bridge the gap between Development and Operations by incorporating the DevOps philosophy and practices in our daily work and teaching others by example. We use our curiosity and passion for improvement to stay current with new techniques and technologies that will help us refine how we deliver high-quality software to our users.

Responsibilities:

Enable software engineering excellence by providing development teams with the tools, frameworks, environments, and education to write more secure, scalable, high quality code, to increase test automation and to release safely and frequently.
Grow and manage the Release Engineering teams, including managers and a staff of software developers, test engineers, configuration management analysts, performance engineers, and release engineers.
Set technical direction and define short- and long-term plans in support of business objectives and to ensure that our technology is best-in-class.
Mentor the team on technology, process, and communication.
Own and manage the systems, tools, and frameworks used in software engineering enablement functions such as configuration and release management and CI/CD tooling.
Identify and implement metrics that support the goals we are trying to achieve and to guide continuous improvement.
Challenge the status quo and drive continuous improvement and change management.
Develop trusted relationships with Product & Technology leaders and business stakeholders to drive continuous improvement.
Drive investigation and adoption of new and emerging software delivery practices, architectures, and tools.
Provide thought leadership around DevOps, DevSecOps, DevTestOps, etc.
Lead by example and model values and behaviors that come with an Agile mind set including servant leadership.

What we’re looking for:

10+ years of experience in in enterprise, SaaS software development and/or operations Experience leading a DevOps transformation, including building and operationalizing a DevOps practice, and growing and optimizing internal enablement teams
5+ years of experience in designing, deploying, and maintaining highly available applications in the cloud
Significant leadership, project management, and planning experience
Experience in creating, hiring, and leading teams
Active listener, able to understand the needs of the people you’re working with
Outstanding verbal and written communication and presentation skills
Strong cross-team and cross-department partnership, collaboration, and consulting skills
A strong focus on business outcomes
Ability to lead with influence, build consensus and move people to action
Executive presence, ability to work with all levels within the organization
Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, take on multiple responsibilities, stay focused on the top priorities, and do what it takes to get things done
Experience in continuous testing, systems automation, virtualization, orchestration, continuous integration, deployment, and observability
Knowledge of DevOps design patterns, processes, and best practices
Public cloud experience, e.g. Azure, AWS, …
Understanding of microservices and containerization, Docker components and orchestration using Kubernetes
Understanding of build and deployment systems and system configuration
Experience setting up complete end-to-end fully integrated delivery systems (source control management, build tools, artifact repositories, deployment, and monitoring systems) is a plus
Experience with performance engineering and load testing is a plus
