The Mental Health Technician (MHT) and Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) works under the direction of a Registered Nurse as an active participant of the treatment team, providing continuous patient care, supervision, interaction, and role modeling to patients ranging in age from adolescents through geriatrics, depending on assigned unit. MHTs facilitate structured group activities and assist with milieu management to ensure excellent patient care.

DUTIES

* 15 minute patient rounds
* First point of contact for patients and ongoing contact thereafter with emphasis on safety
* Lead community meetings and skills groups
* Escort patients to/from meals and outdoor breaks, and monitor accordingly
* Take vital signs
* Perform electrocardiograms (EKGs) as needed and required by medical orders
* Complete patient wellness checklist and chart additional information as needed
* Answer phones
* Escort visitors to see patients
* Provide updates to family/friends who are authorized for such updates

Our MHT position is a great entry-level role for those interested in pursuing careers in behavioral health, psychology, social work, and other healthcare fields. MHTs will receive over two weeks of classroom and on-the-floor training upon hire. SHIFT INFORMATION
We have three shift schedules, with hours that include 100% (1.0), 80% (.8), and 50% (.5) FTE, as well as per diem:

* Days 7am - 3:30pm
* Evenings 3pm - 11:30pm
* Nights 11:00pm - 7:30am

Pay periods are every two weeks; our full-time and part-time clinical staff, including Mental Health Technicians, are required to have two shifts per pay period to fall on a weekend.

Qualifications

Education:

* High school diploma, GED, or equivalent

Licensure:

* Must maintain a valid Washington Department of Health registration as a Nursing Assistant, which is an online application through the Department of Health (can be obtained as part of hire): https://www.doh.wa.gov/LicensesPermitsandCertificates/ProfessionsNewReneworUpdate/NursingAssistant/ApplyOnline/NursingAssistantRegistered

Certification Requirements:

* Successful completion of CPR, First Aid, Handle with Care, and Verbal De-Escalation Certifications, which are provided during Fairfax new hire training.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

* Strong desire to work in psychology and/or patient care
* Ability to organize, work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize work, and meet deadlines
* Effective verbal and written communication skills, telephone etiquette, and paging procedures
* Ability to work as a team player
* Ability to demonstrate tact, resourcefulness, patience, dedication, understanding, and good judgment
* Ability to accept direction, set firm boundaries, and adhere to policies and procedures
* Ability to provide respectful, compassionate care to patients and participate in all aspects of patient care management
* Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations

Physical Demands:

* Ability to stand sit or walk up to six hours, sit for up to two hours.
* Ability to move frequently is required in the delivery of patient care.
* Visual acuity is needed for accurate reading of patient charts and for demonstrating activities or assisting patients in activities.
* Ability to spend 20% of the work day outdoors in temperatures varying form 30-100 degrees F and 80% of the work day indoors in temperatures varying from 60-85 degrees F.
* Ability to occasionally push/pull wheeled carts from 200 lbs. (i.e., crash cart, EKG machine, patient on stretchers or in wheelchairs).
* Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 10 lbs. (i.e. juices, charts, patient's belongings) and occasionally lift and carry up to 100 lbs. (a patient).
* Ability to frequently reach above, at or below shoulder height (obtain supplies, reach in cabinets, use refrigerator), kneel, bend, stoop, turn, and twist.
* Ability to frequently handle, through gross and fine manipulations, simple grasping, twisting and fingering of small objects (telephone buttons, thermometers with both hands).
* Ability to see well enough to read written material and discern a variety of odors.
* Ability to occasionally handle hazardous/infectious waste.
* Ability to work in an environment where the noise level is frequently high; where chemicals are frequently used for cleaning; where mechanical and electrical hazards may be occasionally present; and where dust, mist and steam are frequently generated in housekeeping tasks.
* Ability to work at a rapid pace and tolerate a variety of repetitive tasks.
