SCOPE/PURPOSE OF POSITION:
* Reporting to the Service Owner of Global Compute platforms, the Multi-Cloud Engineer is a senior technology leader that will function as SME for compute technologies, with an emphasis on Multi-cloud technologies. Multi-cloud Engineer will function as an enabler across IT Architecture, Engineering, Operations, Security, Strategic partners, Technology vendors and Project management teams to facilitate the successful delivery of complex Corning initiatives and priorities Responsibility will include supporting this years strategy and design efforts to define the Corning Multi-Cloud solution, as well as to help deliver several complex people, process and technology related activities critical to being ready to support initial release and subsequent migration of applications to the multi-cloud solution in spring 2021. As a core member of the Corning Multi-Cloud team, the Multi-cloud Engineer will be responsible for helping direct and guide the delivery of key priorities across multiple stakeholders, with the assistance of the Project Manager and Technical Support teams. While being predominantly internally focused, this position will require strong communication to bridge between various Infrastructure and Application teams as well as an excellent ability to navigate within a background of relative ambiguity.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Design, Install, configure, manage VMWare Cloud Foundation (VCF)
* Establishes standards, policies & guidelines for the Compute Platform in collaboration with service line owner and technology teams
* Develop, Configure, and support compute solutions that meet business needs and align with Corning technology standards.
* Evaluate all documents according to system requirements and evaluate all design and perform tests on all development activities and administer all complex methodologies.
* Supports IT project start up though technical consultation, charter definition, benefit and analysis, requirements gathering and formal PMO approval.
* Partners with all members of project team as a technical lead in the planning, design, coordination and execution of comprehensive, realistic and effective work plans.
* In partnership with Corning architecture, helps gather requirements, define options and develop holistic integrated solutions to complex business challenges.
* Helps promote a consistent vision and strategy throughout the organization
* Builds relationships that foster collaboration and partnerships to drive better strategies, priorities, and service to the customer
* Assists and oversees quality change control according to Corning Change Management, Incident Management, Problem Management and Disaster recovery Methodology
* Mentors members of the Infrastructure team on architectural, engineering and operational best practices
* Provides escalated support for Business-Critical problems
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
* Bachelor's degree (B.A.) or equivalent from four-year college in computer science or related field
WORK EXPERIENCE
* 7+ years of experience in system administration, with a focus on private cloud (VCF) and public cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP) platforms
* Strong experience with DevOps and Cloud native technologies like containers & K8S
* Experience with Automation and Orchestration tools like Terraform, Ansible etc.
* 7+ years experience in a production IT environment managing enterprise IT infrastructure, hardware, hosting services and cloud infrastructure.

* In depth knowledge in VMWare Cloud Foundation (VCF), including:
* ESXi
* Virtual Center
* vSAN
* vRealize Operations
* vRealize Automation

* Experience with Converged and Hyper Converged technologies such as Cisco UCS, Dell VxRail, or Nutanix
* Experience creating automated scripts and software. Experience with automation and orchestration tools like Terraform, Ansible Chef etc.
* Previous experience with overseeing managed service providers for building and deploying technical solutions, and managing successfully to outcomes
* Previous experience with deploying hybrid or multi-cloud solutions with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
* Experience engineering, building, and supporting a global heterogeneous multi-data center computing environment
* A holistic understanding of IT infrastructure inclusive of server, storage, network, virtualization, database, DR/business recovery and continuity practices, etc.
* A foundational understanding of public cloud models (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) and providers (AWS, Azure, Google)
* Proven ability to facilitate the gathering and translation of business requirements into quality infrastructure solutions, reflecting security, scalability, availability, performance, manageability constructs
* Demonstrated expertise driving operational improvement and excellence under an ITIL based service management model.
* Proven ability to influence and interact effectively with peers and IT leaders
* Strong crisis management
DESIRED SKILLS
* Working knowledge of Converged and Hyper Converged technologies such as Cisco UCS, Dell VxRail, or Nutanix
