The primary mission of the GM Structural Development Laboratory (SDL) is to confirm new vehicle designs meet customer usage requirements by developing and executing component, sub-system, and vehicle level physical durability simulations. SDL is a community of lab testing specialists who as a team, work together to ensure the execution of world class test evaluations are conducted in a safe and efficient manner.
We are seeking a Senior Technician (2nd Shift) who specializes in one or more skill sets valued by our engineering customers. Your leadership and technical expertise will aid in advising teammates. This multifaceted role involves frequent decisions on priorities and approaches to problem solving. You will typically balance multiple projects and achieve results with little or no supervision. The design, build, set up, and execution of laboratory tests for the purpose of developing and validating vehicles, suspension systems, body structures and body closure systems is key. Outstanding interpersonal and relationship leadership skills to effectively collaborate with varying levels of the organization, supplier companies, or service agencies will aid in your success. Responsibilities:
* Investigate mechanical/electrical operational difficulties on products and/or components and recommending corrective action
* Setup and operate laboratory tests using pneumatic, hydraulic and electro-mechanical closed loop control schemes
* Design and fabricate custom fixtures to facilitate unique test setups
* Monitor test progress and document observations in log book, communicate project status and results to Test Engineer
* Compile and format engineering data for evaluation report
* Multitask, keeping multiple projects moving forward at the same time
Additional Job Description
Required:
* Associates Degree in automotive technology, mechanical engineering, electrical/electronic engineering, fluid power, mechatronics, or equivalent
* Knowledge of vehicle and body systems and sophisticated mechanical and electrical systems and concepts
* Advanced fabrication and machine shop skills
* Experience with closed loop pneumatic, hydraulic, and electro-mechanical control systems used for laboratory testing
* Analytical ability where problems are complex
* Automotive laboratory testing experience
* Self-directed individual that excels in a team environment
* Note: This is a 2nd shift role
Preferred:
* ASE certification
* Troubleshoot, calibrate, and tune test equipment for laboratory operations
* Collect data using digital data acquisition systems and assist engineering personnel with processing, editing, and engineering analysis
* High level of problem solving and analytical skills
* Experience with GMLAN, LIN, and CAN
