JOB SUMMARY:
The Continuous Improvement Engineer is responsible for effectively coordinating with key members of the Operations, Engineering, Maintenance and Factory Performance & Reliability (FP&R) teams to identify continuous improvement opportunities designed to improve Asset Utilization (AU), and reduce Unplanned Downtime (UPDT). CI Engineer will also work closely with EOHS, Quality, Finance and Planning to assess and understand potential project initiatives to improve shop floor quality/reduce non-conformances (NCs), EOHS improvement opportunities, material loss initiatives, and schedule enhancements to optimize or production efficiencies.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities Include:
- Coordinate rollout and implementation of CI & Productivity standard expectations for all Operational Areas: Making, Tube Making, and Finishing.
- Leads Small Group Meetings to establish RCA (Root Cause Analysis) and execute plans to improve throughput and efficiency.
- Coordinate Forward Action Plan (FAP) from Small Group Meetings with Team Leaders to track action to closure.
- Lead Kaizen events, and manage on closure items.
- Lead SMED program, and manage on closure items to improve changeover (CO) process.
- Establish specific projects geared towards improving productivity, reducing material losses, reducing CO times, etc.
- Participate in FP&R Self-Assessment and execute/manage audits FAP.
- Participate in FP&R program in all standards.
- Coordinate and communicate the sites project hopper to the FP&R Standard Owners and Plant LT.
- Partner with factory management to prioritize and select CI opportunities based on feasibility and potential business value.
- Ensure standardization of approach for conducting CI projects not limited to but including downtime, throughput, line speed, batch cycle time and CO time.
- Ensure Operational/Maintenance teams have training, tools and time to develop and implement priority CI projects.
- Coordinate CI training in use of basic root cause analysis tools (5 Why, Fishbone and Pareto), SMED.
- Active participation in Standard Daily Meeting.
- Provides coverage for Operations Team Leader, as needed, in all 3 shifts.
- Ensure that systems are in place to display visual elements (equipment settings, cleaning/lubrication points, etc) using consistent color and symbol standards in accordance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Partner with focus factory management and team leaders to coordinate 5S implementation across all individual equipment, lines, tools and production/general areas.
- Ensure that CI projects that generate savings are entered into the Funding the Growth e-Savings database.
- Coordinate CI meetings with FP&R Leader and focus factory managers.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Processing/Packaging Technology, or other related technical field
- Proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint required
- Ability to work on various shifts and weekends as needed
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Lean Six Sigma experience or certification
- Six Sigma or equivalent certification
- Experience with continuous improvement programs
- Supervisory experience
- SAP experience
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Expected percentage of travel: Up to 10 %
