Dow has an opening in Midland (MI), Lake Jackson (TX) or Collegeville (PA) for a Research Application Developer in an inclusive, and creative environment where you will have flexibility in specialization. This position is part of the Information Research group in Core R&D. Information Research accelerates discovery in R&D by building and leveraging new tools and applications for researchers and decision makers.
We seek highly motivated candidates who will learn all facets of IT including software development and analysis and collaborate with software architects and material science researchers to develop and install/configure software and database systems. We need someone who can learn quickly, work well both in teams and independently and is passionate about exploring new IT technologies.
Duties and responsibilities include:
Write robust, maintainable code to develop user-friendly front-end and/or back-end applications.
Solve complex problems by analyzing & designing new applications or adopting/integrating existing systems based on requirements gathered from scientists and researchers.
Create architectural designs for systems to meet evolving needs.
Explore new patterns in IT development and lead efforts to adopt them.
Develop Proof of Concept projects to test application of new technologies.
Uplift existing core applications to modern platforms.
Work with a variety of people, both in person and virtually.
Seeking candidates with the following:
Excellent programming skills. Experience with object-oriented programming languages, preferably C#, and JavaScript, ideally Aurelia framework.
Familiarity with data structures and algorithms as well as feature definition, design and feasibility.
Solid understanding of software design patterns and principles.
Experience with source control and continuous integration/continuous deployment discipline.
Experience with SQL, NoSQL or Graph databases.
Excellent communication skills.
Familiarity with the research science lab environment and workflows.
Must be a team player - will work across geographic boundaries with project leadership, other Subject Matter Experts, Support Network, and client base.
Required Qualifications:
A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology or a related discipline is required.
3 years of relevant experience
