I. Job Summary

Designs, develops and communicates specific strategic technical plans and intricate designs for information technology needs through new and existing applications, systems architecture, and applications infrastructure. Assumes responsibility for combining advanced technical expertise with best practices, and standard solutions in an effort to align information technology solutions with business strategy. Presents and communicates to all levels of the organization (technical and non-technical), oversees development and ensures the overall solution is appropriate.



II. Duties and Responsibilities include the following. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other ancillary duties may be assigned.



* Extensive experience architecting, implementing and managing environments with AWS on a large scale and applying well architected framework.

* Strong working knowledge of AWS services such as Route 53, Cloud Front, EC2, ECS, RDS Aurora (MySQL and PostgreSQL), DynamoDB, ElasticSearch, Kinesis streams, IoT, Lambda and API Gateway

* Deep understanding of different services and structures within AWS, and the various trade-offs involved with deciding what services to use.

* Experience migrating client workloads into AWS from other clouds (public or private) as well as traditional on-premise solutions

* Experience managing client workloads across multiple AWS availability zones and regions

* Experience with data modeling.

* Experience with on-premise to cloud migrations or IT transformations

* Presentation skills with a high degree of comfort speaking with executives, IT Management, and developers; strong communication skills with an ability to right level conversations

* Demonstrated ability to adapt to new technologies and learn quickly

* Establish policies and standard operating procedures to enable consistent and repeatable execution

* Plan for adequate capability on systems based on utilization metrics and planned projects to establish supply and demand forecasts

* Presents, and evangelizes advanced technical processes effectively to all levels of the organization (including technical and non-technical audiences, Senior Leadership, VPs and C-level executives).

* Coordinates with users and/or business analysts to determine requirements.

* Contributes to application/project design and review sessions.

* Ensures that the application design complies with the enterprises standard for technical, information application, and business architecture.

* Resolves the implications and conflicts between the ideal application architecture and constraints imposed by other forces (e.g., availability, security, financial, accessibility, etc.).

* Performs vendor management functions including but not limited to participating in the definition of contractual components, maximizing the benefit of the purchased solution, and providing input to and collaborating with the vendor team.

* Leads capacity planning and capacity management activities.

* Provides recommendations on architectural approach and higher-level design for projects.

* Researches emerging trends and technologies to stay current within the field.



III. Supervisory Responsibilities

May coach and mentor less-experienced analysts and act as team leader on systems projects.



IV. Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.



A. Education and Experience



Education: Required Bachelors Degree (accredited) in Computer Science, MIS, or similar area of study, or in lieu of degree High School Diploma or GED (accredited).



Experience: Required ten years of previous experience (including four years of experience working as a Software Architect).



B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements



AWS Certified Solution Architect Associate or Professional (Preferred)



C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required



Advanced knowledge or skills in one or more of the following required:

* Present, communicate and articulate effectively to all levels of the organization (including technical and non-technical audiences, Senior Leadership, VPs and C-level executives).

* Experience in public cloud architectures, cloud brokering solutions or cloud management solutions for Public Cloud

* +5 years AWS experience

* A minimum of 5 years with assessing architecture quality and resiliency viz. scalability, availability, throughput, failover, etc.

* Architecting and designing frameworks.

* Vendor interactions skills; Provide input to contract negotiations.

* Ability to resolve interpersonal and technical conflicts.

* Knowledge and understanding of prototyping and methods of implementation.

* Ability to provide input to business processes and translate them into technical requirements.
