Department Summary
This Field Leader position supervises Gas Distribution full-time employees who are covered under the Consumers Energy working agreement with the Utility Workers Union of America (UWUA). Field Leader will be responsible for Macomb Service terrority.
Job Description/Responsibilities
* Provide direct supervision up to 15 union employees, including the accountability for safe working procedures, compliance with regulations, and engagement of the team
* Lead Gas Distribution work plan and all aspects of Operations and Maintenance, including safety, operational goals, performance, adherence to standards, employee development, and productivity.
* Train and provide technical expertise to gas distribution field employees
* Positively and frequently interact with customers
* Direct work activities to meet established work plans and objectives
* Lead and collaborate with peers, employees and partnering organizations to create/maintain a work environment that reaches common goals of safety, compliance, quality, and productivity
Requirements/Qualifications
* A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
* 3 years experience in gas transmission, gas distribution, gas construction, gas service, or gas compression and storage; OR
* 3 years experience in underground utility operations (e.g., Gas, Electric, Water, Sewer); OR
* 3 years experience as a Consumers Energy field operations field leader (e.g., Electric, Fleet, Facilities, Meter Reading) or plant supervisor (e.g., Production, Fuel, Maintenance); OR
The following experience / skills may set you apart from others:
* Post-high school education / degree in Business Administration, Construction Management, or similar Proficiency with standard business computer software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
* A strong knowledge of the working agreement, safe work practices and previous supervisory experience Natural gas utility experience with a strong mechanical background in maintenance of gas distribution facilities, emergency leak investigation and repair, damage repair and tapping/control work.
* Leadership experience in making strong decisions
* A strong history of successful working relationship with peers
Essential Functions
The Field Leader is a responsible for leading employees in the safe and efficient execution of work of assigned underground construction activities. Responsible for the planning, organizing, coordinating, evaluating and supervising the work of employees assigned to the operation and construction of gas systems, customer gas services, buildings and grounds or utility support areas. Responds to complaints and requests for information on the status of jobs in progress to a high degree of accuracy. Inspects job sites to check on work progress, assure satisfactory completion and plans new assignments, prepares requisitions for operations and maintenance supplies, equipment and materials and supervises special projects as required. Conducts regular safety meetings, participates as a member of safety committee; investigates and completes necessary incident reports and accident reports; maintains records, prepares and submits required reports for appropriate agencies.
Hours and Travel
This position requires the individual to work a minimum of 45 hours per week with a majority of the time spent in the field with the remainder in the office. Individual needs to be willing to work additional hours as necessary to meet deadlines or assist with emergent system restoration activities and could be given very short notice to do so. Individual should be willing to participate in the on call rotation in case of potential emergent activities. Individual may have to work outside of assigned headquarters, which may require overnight stays. Could potentially work a flexible schedule to meet the demands of the business, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime. Individual must have a valid drivers license.
