Manages the daily operations of the Product Compliance and Certificate Management areas; manages the new product or existing product support function; ensures that contract and state filing language conforms to varying state requirements; controls the drafting, compilation, and submittal of new policy forms, riders, applications, and advertising, and controls the maintenance and reporting of existing products; monitors the companys adherence to all applicable regulatory requirements, policies, procedures, and Compliance processes to ensure that the appropriate control environment is documented and tracked

Responsibilities

Oversees the direct management of the business unit operation and the leadership and

development of employee teams; gathers and analyzes data and reports that pertain to the overall operation of the business unit and completes reports summarizing activities and trends; develops and implements strategic and tactical operational plans to ensure that company and departmental goals are achieved; performs independent review of problem situations, develops solutions, and implements action steps to resolve problems and ensure customer satisfaction and regulatory compliance

Manages the new product or existing product support function; ensures that contract and state filing language conforms to varying state requirements; controls the drafting, compilation, and submittal of new policy forms, riders, applications, and advertising, and controls the maintenance and reporting of existing products; manages special projects; corresponds with state insurance departments and oversees the preparation, state insurance filing and maintenance of all hard copy product documentation such as life and health products, advertising and training material, brochures, newsletters, agent correspondence, etc.; monitors the companys adherence to all applicable regulatory requirements, policies, procedures, and Compliance processes to ensure that the appropriate control environment is documented and tracked

Maintains an effective working relationship with agency representatives, division management, and associates, reviews all bulletins, advance regulation notices, etc., from state insurance departments and legal services to stay abreast of legislative changes in the industry and the diverse state-specific regulations, policies, mandates, reporting deadlines, etc.; advises senior management of any significant regulatory trends on the state level that would impact the companys operations and products; proactively develops and provides recommendations to address regulation changes, and control and monitoring issues; ensures the prompt and effective communication, implementation of, and continued compliance by the areas impacted

Oversees the development and maintenance of information databases, a historical and current library of state insurance laws and regulations that provides an accurate and consistent referral source for information on regulatory changes, state filing status, customer inquiry, pending action, product revision, etc.; communicates with state insurance departments and other regulatory agencies to resolve issues, answer questions and/or clarify interpretation of laws, regulations, and advertising filings, respond to market conduct and other audit investigations, and discuss potential changes in business practices, etc.

Identifies, analyzes, and monitors business technology requirements and enhancement possibilities; recommends viable technological solutions, modification, and applications; takes a leadership role in managing assigned projects; evaluates recommended projects to determine cost, benefits, and feasibility, and prepares recommendations for implementation; reviews processes and procedures to streamline activities to enhance service turnaround time, productivity, and quality; coordinates overall workflow of the business unit and ensures that workflow processes facilitate effective and efficient use of corporate resources and enhance customer satisfaction

Qualifications

Education & Experience

Bachelor's Degree in business administration or a related field and, 6 years of professional job-related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

4 years in a supervisory/senior professional leadership capacity required

Professional designation or completed course work in underwriting, claims, life/health insurance, or benefits such as HIA, AIRC, and LOMA preferred

Job Knowledge & Skills

In-depth knowledge of the insurance industry, the theory and application to include products, policy, processes, terminology, benefits, and limitations; ability to review and interpret the complex language of federal and state insurance laws and regulations

Extensive knowledge of federal, state, local and industry regulatory publication requirements, standard concepts, practices, and procedures as they relate to the insurance industry, marketing, and advertising Knowledge of NAIC Model Laws and Regulations, and various advertising, state, and federal laws and regulations such as Unfair Trade Practices, Illegal Inducements/Rebates, IRS Section 125, COBRA, etc.

Knowledge of project management, budgeting, and expense control to plan, implement, and

maximize resources

Strong personal computer skills with experience in Windows-based software
