The Facebook Reality Labs AR/VR team at Facebook is helping more people around the world come together and connect through world-class Augmented, Mixed, and Virtual Reality hardware and software. In creating a new compute platform Operating System, we are currently seeking a Software Engineering Manager to manage a team of engineers focused on the OS application model and shell services - balancing our privacy and power goals with enabling cutting edge experience across our devices. The ideal candidate has strong design and build skills, a passion for systems software, hands-on experience delivering large scale applications or application platforms. You are the kind of leader who has expertise building and supporting high-performance teams that create highly reliable, robust, and performant systems software. You have hands-on experience leading teams bringing up new, widely used programming platforms, runtimes and languages. You have a passion for shipping software that enables applications developers to succeed on our platform and across devices.

Software Engineering Manager, XROS App Framework - Application Structure Responsibilities

* Manage engineers and help them develop their careers, assigning them to projects tailored to their skill levels, long-term skill development, personalities, and work styles.

* Communicate and collaborate effectively with cross-functional hardware and software engineering teams.

* Champion engineering and operational excellence, establishing metrics and process for regular assessment and improvement.

* Set clear expectations and create a positive work environment based on accountability, in collaboration with the engineering and management teams.

* Work closely with dedicated recruiting staff to expand the team, including sourcing candidates, interviewing candidates, participating in conferences/events, and on-boarding new employees.

* Build and lead teams designing and delivering our Application Structure approaches with an eye towards end to end functionality.

Minimum Qualifications

* 3+ years of work experience architecting, developing, and launching software products and/or services.

* 3+ years experience managing and growing software engineers.

* Experience delivering SDKs and supporting application developers.

* Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience delivering applications or system frameworks.

* Experience in Windows, Linux, MAC and/or Android.
