Job Summary:
Opportunity to work in Materials Engineering. This position will offer you the opportunity to engage subject matter experts (SME) and perform hands-on-testing of materials in addition to perform hands-on-testing of adhesives, polymers, tapes, composites, metals, and various other production materials. The primary responsibilities will include assessing materials based on conformance to specifications as well as conducting testing, using various analytical instrumentation, including spectroscopy, chromatography and thermal analysis. Tasks will require careful attention to detail on repetitive procedures at times. Due to the physical nature of the work, qualified candidates must also be able to lift 22 lbs. Collaboration with engineers, subject matter experts, and suppliers is required. You must be able to manage and coordinate a wide variety of simultaneous tasks within set schedule requirements. You will become part of a multi-disciplined team.

This position is located in beautiful Tucson, AZ.

Note: This position can be a Salary Grade G08 (Sr. Multi-disciplined Engineer I) Chemist or G09 (Sr. Multi-disciplined Engineer II) Chemist II based on the candidate's qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibility requirements for the position.

Qualifications You Must Have:

* Bachelors in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) (Chemistry or related Science Field )
* For Sr. Chemist Engineer I Four (4) years of Chemistry experience, to include Analytical Chemistry and Instrumental Analysis (MS with 2 years or Ph.D. with 0 years experience)
* For Sr. Chemist Engineer II Six (6) years of Chemistry experience, to include Analytical Chemistry and Instrumental Analysis (MS with 4 years or Ph.D. with 2 years experience)
* Experience with laboratory equipment such as: ovens, thermometers, calipers, reading dials, and Vernier scales.
* Experience with material testing/analysis such as: Hardness, adhesion tests, sample preparation procedures, cross sectioning
* Working knowledge/experience of Infrared Spectroscopy, Chromatography and Thermal Analysis
* The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance prior to the start date. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

Qualifications We Value:

* Understanding of material safety datasheets and Military Specifications
* Working knowledge of Instrumental Analysis (FTIR, DSC, DMA, TGA, GCMS, HPLC, GPC, etc..)
* Able to troubleshoot analytical instrument problems, perform analysis and interpret data.
* Good communication, interpersonal, planning and time management skills
* Current/Active DoD clearance or SSBI
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
* Demonstrated ability to work with colleagues who represent a diversity of work and conflict resolution styles
* Advanced degree in aforementioned disciplines (Material Science and Chemistry) ABET accreditation
