Are you a college student looking for an internship this summer? Are you looking to gain valuable hands-on experience? Do you want to work on challenging projects? If yes, then an internship at Publix may be the perfect fit for you.

This internship will run from May 24th through July 30th at the Orlando Distribution Center. Interns are offered competitive pay and are generally expected to work onsite 40 hours per week, although this varies by department. Additionally, the intern selected will need to reside in or around Orlando or otherwise be responsible for securing accommodations during the program. Interns leave Publix at the end of the summer knowing they have made a valuable contribution to the organization with an experience that helps them grow professionally and personally.

Responsibilities include:

* conduct a Produce Warehouse sectional analysis to identify current warehouse KPIs and opportunities
* lead the analysis and implementation of a Produce re-slotting project (a warehouse re-slot project optimizes item location based on multiple criteria to better serve order pickers, our stores, and Publix in general)
* conduct a Battery Change time study to validate current system values

Required Qualifications
* reside in or around Orlando, or coordinate your own housing within a commutable distance of the work location
* rising Junior, rising Senior or Graduate Student majoring in Industrial Engineering, or Supply Chain Management
* completed coursework in Robotics and Manufacturing Automation and Methods, Standards & Work Design
* basic knowledge of Microsoft Access, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
* ability to utilize business management skills that include communication, organizational, leadership, decision making, computer/systems and creative thinking to support the operation of a warehouse, including safety observations and clerical support

Preferred Qualifications
* a focus in the area of Industrial Engineering that includes studies in the area of business management which includes leadership, communication, decision making, computer systems, and creative thinking to support the warehouse operation

Before Publix was founded in 1930, Mr. George worked at a Piggly Wiggly store in Winter Haven, Florida. While managing that store, the company experienced a change in ownership. Eager to introduce himself and share his ideas with the new owner, he traveled to Atlanta. The new owner declined to meet with Mr. George, stating he was tied up in an important business conference.

Mr. George left feeling disappointed. On his way back to Florida, he knew he wanted to build a company where everyone would have a voice and the doors to communication would always be open. He dreamed of creating a work environment where associates would feel respected and valued.

In 1930, his dream became a reality when he opened his first Publix and established a workplace with an open door of communication where his associates were encouraged to share their ideas, ask questions and talk freely with one another regardless of their level in management.
