In this role, you will work collaboratively with our team of talented engineers and scientists to improve Weyerhaeuser's lumber manufacturing operations and provide support for various new development efforts.

Your background in mechanical engineering and proven problem-solving skills will be key to your success in this position.

Key Responsibilities:

* Working safely in a mill environment
* Acting as the project lead for installations of data acquisition systems in wood products mills
* Designing welded steel assemblies for project installations and prototype equipment
* Validating new technologies
* Supporting legacy hardware equipment
* Troubleshooting anomalies and other mill issues



Qualifications

* Experience: You have 5+ experience working as a mechanical engineer in an industrial environment, managing small to medium projects, developing practical and creative solutions to unique problems, designing prototype equipment, and conducting experimental trials of new technology. You can work as part of a team to analyze and troubleshoot complex technical issues that span software, electrical and mechanical systems.
* Education: You have a BS or higher in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline
* Drive: We are looking for someone who is eager to learn about lumber production processes regardless of years of experience.
* Core Skills: Your work history demonstrates your ability to deliver workable, valuable solutions to solve real manufacturing problems. You can communicate issues and results to both technical and non-technical audiences and work well with individuals and teams. You have a high level of initiative and the ability to excel with minimum supervision.
* Technical Skills: You have a strong working knowledge of at least one 3D parametric modeling program (SolidWorks/Inventor preferred).
* Travel: You are able and willing to travel within the US and Canada, up to 30%.

Desired Skills:

* Prior experience developing hardware systems for an industrial environment
* Familiarity with at least one object-oriented programming language with a desire to learn more (preferred: C, Python, LabView)
* Experience with databases
* Experience with AutoCAD
* Experience working in a sawmill or other similar business
