Job Description:

The sterile processing technician has responsibilities related to the care and handling of sterile and non-sterile supplies, instruments, and equipment used in SPD, surgery and medical equipment for distribution to patients.

* Follows manufacturer's recommendations and department policies and procedures in safe operation of equipment and verification of sterile parameters. e.g., sterilizers, washing sterilizers, cart washer, ultrasonic washer, heat sealers computer system, etc.
* Consistently inspects and assembles surgical instrument trays and medical equipment e.g. IV pumps, PCA pumps, feeding pumps, suction devices, hyperthermia units according to content sheet or operations manual accurately.
* Processes equipment and other materials for distribution daily in a timely manner as required.
* Distributes clean and retrieves soiled instruments/equipment, rental equipment and other

materials on a scheduled or emergency basis.

* Inputs patient charges through computer system and properly documents all necessary information and labels items correctly.
* Assures sterility of all materials processed by Sterile Processing prior to issuing and checks all other stored materials weekly for expiration dates.

Qualifications

* High School Diploma or the equivalent
* Completed an accredited sterile processing program and/or completion of a surgical technology program and/or field related experience
* Must have proof of completion of a sterile processing program and pass the State of Florida Certification exam
* Must be able to accurately document & understand the parameters of sterilization.
* Able to function effectively under rapidly changing conditions.
