Renew is a unique in-house creative development division for HCCP intellectual property and provides the opportunity to work across the spectrum of authors and products for all publishing divisions including all imprints. It necessitates market awareness and rewards creativity by working with the content from leading authors spanning decades.

The Senior Editor is responsible for editorial and product development of Thomas Nelson and Zondervan products. This individual will work with the Sr. Director, Publishing to strategize and manage title plans for product categories to ensure Renew produces the budgeted amount of product to meet annual fiscal goals.

Responsibilities

* Maintain a consistent, timely, and multi-faceted publishing pipeline
* Work with agents, authors and internal publishing imprints to revitalize approximately 20 titles per year

* Proactively participate in regular editorial meetings and pub boards

* Identify market trends and felt needs of readers

* Can write content as needed, maintaining the authors voice

* Maintain and strengthen trust in author/agent relationships

* Create ideas for proprietary books and brands

* Select and manage freelancers, when appropriate

* Perform a macro and micro level edit on the manuscript

* Work with sales, operations and publisher for approvals

* Oversees budgets for editorial expenses (copyeditors, proofreaders, indexers).

Qualifications

Knowledge: Understanding of the Christian publishing industry, authors and/or content, required.Expertise in Chicago Manual of Style . A strong grasp of proper English, grammar, and an eagle-eye for errors. Thorough knowledge of the book editorial process, required. Working knowledge and understanding of theological concepts and positions, strongly preferred.

Work Experience: Minimum of five years working in the book publishing industry preferred with a focus on trade nonfiction. Prior experience with acquisitions in trade publishing, preferred.

Education: Bachelors degree in English, journalism, or related field, required. A Biblical or theological degree would be a real plus, but not a requirement.

Industry Knowledge: Keeps up with trends in the publishing industry.Working knowledge of the trade book market, leading authors and agents is required. Experience serving the Christian market in publishing or related field, strongly preferred. Attuned to doctrinal landscape of the Christian market, preferred.
