Job Description

We are looking for an Engineer who will be a technical leader for Privacy within Facebook, enforcing and creating policies and standards while disseminating learnings from any incidents. Your expertise in privacy design or incident response will be the foundation of initiatives that protect the data of over two billion people, advancing Facebook's mission to make privacy a priority in everything we do. This position has a 16-week duration. All candidates are expected to commit to a consecutive 16 week timeframe for successful completion of the program. At the end of the term, those participants who have demonstrated their ability to succeed and make an impact at Facebook will be considered for a full-time position. Roles are filled as candidates are identified. This program is open to all candidates who have relevant professional experience and have been out of the workforce for 2 years or longer immediately prior to the start of the program. Return to Work - Privacy Engineer Responsibilities

* Review technical implementation details and design documentation for new Facebook systems and features to ensure compliance with policy and legal requirements, while giving guidance on improving privacy features in those systems.

* Determine root cause of privacy incidents and implementation failures through an in-depth and technically exhaustive investigative process.

* Provide strategic technical guidance to an expanding team and discern actionable tasks in an unstructured environment. Providing both career and technical mentorship to the members of the team.

* Scale the teams capabilities via identification and implementation of foundational tooling and process improvements.

* Work cross-functionally with product engineering, legal, and policy teams.

* Disseminate learnings from privacy reviews and incidents to raise awareness and avoid problems reoccurring.

* Set and uphold quality and throughput standards of the privacy review and/or incident management process.

* Identify process and personnel bottlenecks from quantified metrics, uncovering potential optimizations.

Minimum Qualifications

* B.S. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.

* 3+ years industry experience in a role developing software in Python, PHP, Java, C/C++ (or equivalent language), including code maintenance and review.

* 3+ years experience within a corporate environment with experience communicating technical issues and their implications to leadership and other areas of the business.

* 2+ years experience focusing on security/privacy related design, security/privacy incident management, or security/privacy research.

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience contributing to the security/privacy community (public research, blogging, presentations, etc.).

* Experience triaging and investigating technical security and privacy incidents.

* Experience assessing architectural designs and implementation details seeking security and privacy shortcomings.

* Experience translating regulatory requirements (GDPR, CCPA, ePD) into actionable technical specifications.
