Job Description

The team is responsible for developing Facebook's foundational capabilities in text (Facebook's OCR) and people: anything related to face photos and videos, and, in particular, face recognition for the face tag suggestion product, face detection, verification, alignment and more, on server, portal, mobile, and AR. The team has joint engineering and research goals: Publishing novel results in scientific conferences and journals, modeling, and engineering to ship new technology for use by downstream product teams. The team interacts with other teams throughout Facebook, including infra teams, many product teams representing many of Facebook's activities in any platform where OCR or face processing is relevant.

Postdoctoral Researcher, Text and People - TAP (PhD) Responsibilities

* Develop highly scalable algorithms based on state-of-the-art machine learning and neural network methodologies.

* Collaborate with cross functional teams and scientists to facilitate research that enables learning the semantics of images, videos and other modalities.

* Apply knowledge of relevant research domains along with expert coding skills to platform and framework development projects.

* Adapt machine learning and neural network algorithms and architectures to best exploit modern parallel environments (e.g., distributed clusters, multicore SMP, and GPU).

Minimum Qualifications

* Currently has or in the process of obtaining PhD in Computer Science or related field.

* Research and/or work experience in artificial intelligence, machine learning, mathematics, and/or computer vision.

* Coding experience in C, C++, Java, Python or similar language.

* Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.

Preferred Qualifications

* Research and software engineer experience demonstrated via an internship, work experience, coding competitions.

* Research experience in face recognition, face detection, face alignment, face tracking, deep fakes, and/or OCR.

* First-authored publications at peer-reviewed conferences (e.g. CVPR, ECCV, ICCV, NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, or similar).
