GUIDANCE STATEMENT Education on Electronic Fetal Monitoring for RN working L&D, sent from Hospital Service Center on 8/1/2019:
1. New hires without previous EFM experience will take a basic fetal monitoring course within the first 30 days of working in labor and delivery.
2. All RNs who provide care to patients requiring electronic fetal monitoring will complete the AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Course (IFMC) within 6 months of working within labor & delivery full time. Part time RNs should be evaluated individually for readiness to complete the course.
3. All RNs who provide care to patients requiring electronic fetal monitoring will complete a fetal monitoring course or review every 2 years. This may be an intermediate course or advanced course at the discretion of the hospitals leadership. It may be online or classroom.
